Hello there, my name is J. Antonio Jimenez and I'm running the AMV
contest this year at Otakon. I'm glad to see there is a lot of
excitement over the contest already as AMVs have long been a favorite
event of mine at any con.
I'd like to assure you all that I'll be doing my best to organize a
great event this year! Some of you have voiced some concern as to what
the differences are with the rules, how we set the deadline and why the
rules have not been posted on the Otakon website and I'd like to take a
little bit of time to explain.
First, the rules had to be updated to take into account the fact that
Otaku Video will no longer be assisting with the AMV contest. We had to
review the technical aspects of the rules as well as rearrange the
submission guidelines because of this. We also updated the rules to
make sure that the terms Otakon and Otakorp were being used correctly.
Second, with the help of Matt Pyson, the deadline for the contest was
set by calculating how much time would be needed to compile screening
tapes, hold screenings and prepare a finalized contest tape. The
deadline last year was May 3rd and the con started July 30th. This year
the deadline is May 19th and the con starts on August 19th, giving us
the same amount of time to prepare for the con.
Third, after the rules were finalized, they had to be approved by
Otakon's lawyer. While I had received the attorney's approval before
posting to the Otakon forum and the mailing list, I failed to notify the
head of programming or the web master of this fact, so the post was
deleted. I have since been in contact with the head of programming to
clear this up, and the rules should be posted to both the forum and the
web page soon. I am sorry for any confusion this has caused.
I understand everyone wants to see a great contest at this year's con,
but please be patient with me as some of the resources that we have
relied upon in the past are no longer available. With the advice of
Matt Pyson and the help of the other staff members who are assisting me
and all of you in the AMV community, the Otakon 2005 AMV contest will be
a great time for all!
Thank you all for taking the time to read this post. Look forward to
the rules been posted on the official Otakon website and the forums
soon.

That's what they said about the NHL lockout. lol. Just messing around. Hopefully a deal will get worked out soon so there isn't any chaos.Kusoyaro wrote:Last I spoke to Omar about it (two weeks ago), he was still in the middle of negotiations. He seemed optimistic.Senta wrote:So has there been any confirmation on whether or not we'll have AMV Iron Chef?
