Can I get HDTV on my pc?

Post by Knowname » Sat Feb 12, 2005 3:09 am

Hi! I'm looking at buying a videocard with VIVO (and a monitor), specifically the MSI NX6600GTAGP and it has a YPbPr (or similar acronym), am I safe to assume that is Component video  ?

OK so, I have an Xbox that I want to hook up with AVS Box (I think it's called) I'm wondering if I'll be able to play in those snazzy new progressive modes? I figure all I'd need is a program to act as a window (as my LCD monitor I'm gonna get could only DREAM of 760x480 ;p and the xbox does all the work anyway...) it should work right??

I also have a digital cable tuner (has composit out... I think) that should work.... right  ?? I'm just wondering if anybody here has done this or if it sound correct to anybody else?

You can read about it in the manual (E_NX-series_v3.0.zip); download from http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/d ... 636&kind=2...section 3.11, I think.

(I don't own the card and don't know any more about it.)

well as you pointed out, it does say HDTV!! but unfortunateley that may just be because of the out function (and the dongle on the NX6600's looks to be out only?? It's different than the ones pictured in reviews). Reading further tells little as tech specs like this can be translated in a number of ways (mostly is it in, is it out? does the h/w really matter since it's not decoding anything??).

Regardless I guess I'll know soon enough. But what I should have said is if anybody with a consumer capture card (brooktree, conexant or VIVO) have gotten HDTV with them? Or is that some special specification... see I'd figure as long as you have an hd tuner any cap program can handle it! But there goes my naivism again *bye*.

This is the first video card I've ever seen that had component video ports - which is why I was interested. Unfortunately, the manual does not make it clear if the card does progressive or interlaced through the component jacks.

If that sounds like a contradiction: I have a DVD player that has a menu selection for the output port (S-vid, composite, or component). When I select "component" I need to select either "progressive" or "interlaced". So the actual output could be either way through the same plugs.

Here's a page that explains some of the difference, and some of the confusion that's being spread on the market for these things:
