Kingdom Hearts
I'm here to talk about Kingdom Hearts. Just got a chance to kinda play it today, examine the battle system, survey the presentation style, and such. And i must say that I'm quite impressed.
First of all, the battle system is what I am more fascinated/excited about... it is REAL TIME!!! I am such a sucker for real-time RPGs... (Secret of Mana!!!) There is also very innovative use of the right analog stick for cruising through the menu in the bottom left of the screen... pushing down on it selects that option... i can see where it comes in handy. Unfortunately, there was no way of seeing what abilities Sora could obtain; nor how Donald and Goofy (and other party members) fare on their own; nor how magic works, both mechanically and visually.
The presentation of Kingdom Hearts is pretty good as well... the character models are quite detailed, esp. the eyes. However, it still seems quite jaggy, pixelation occurs when the character models are moving or when the camera is slowing rotating about them or panning... the textures are quite good as well. Other than the atrocious loading time between cut scenes, as well as the loading between areas, the pace of the game is pretty good... tho i am spoiled by the short loading times of the GC. :p
Kingdom Hearts seems to play out just like any other RPG... delving deep into the psyche and drawing out more useless phrases about life; which will no doubt make their way into many a few's signatures... But if KH can pull out some really twisted stuff, and show that Disney and Square have no qualms about going for those really dark overtones... then i think that we may have ourseles a true winner; but obviously I havent played it long enough to find out.
Now the only thing is to hope against hope that Kingdom Hearts will somehow find its way to the GC, so i dont have to spend another $260+ to get a PS2... but then, KH GC-bound is pretty unlikely.
So I'll just have to use someone else's PS2. Oh no.
