Downloads Stopping Randomly on a high-speed onnection

Post by BasharOfTheAges » Tue Feb 01, 2005 3:03 pm

Okay, i have had this problem in the past but it seemed to go away.. now it's back again and in force. I am running Mozilla and often start the download of a video and recieve it at a good 30 to 50 k/sec. I often get 2 vids at once (which usually works just fine and dandy); however, lately my downloads have completely stopped at varying percentages and refused to start again. The site, therefore, thinks that i am still downloading videos and refuses to let me get anything else for about a day. When I open the download mannager tab in Mozilla it sometimes even tells me i have negative percentages of videos. Now i'm on a T1 line at school and don't really have this problem with any other websites, so what could be the issue? I have not alterd any settings whatsoever yet some video downloads work while others give me this issue. Does anyone have any idea?

BTW, all the sources are local ones.

When my download manager (Edonkey) is on my internet connection sometimes randomly blocks - usually giving the same problems - that's all i could think of...

The downloads start okay, they just randomly stop. I'm not using any extra software for downoad managing or acceleration ( i have access to a constant connection with decent speeds, so i have no need for such programs) so it's probably a comflict between my browser and the server somewhere. Where would be the issue :?

um... let me think... the most propable explanation i can think of is your connection somehow resets or has some kind of 'hickup' - meaning that the connection is temporarily 0 and the download is affected in the worst possible way... however i can't say where the problem is exactly.

With this network... that's a distict possibilty; however, many of the videos that stop do it on the same percentage each time. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Does it have any non-random factor - time or MB's downloaded?

I never noticed a spicific time time before time out and Mozilla dosn't have that feature in their download mannager window (they only have a time remaining column). The only thing that seems to be the same for videos that had stopped in the past was the exact percentage of video that was completed would always be the same. However after tring for several days to get those videos, i would eventually succede.

I would prefer to be able to download AMVs without this little issue and i assume since it's such an oddity (based on the lack of different-user replies i have recieved from others on the issue) it's probably an issue i may be able to remedy or one that has no chance of ever being fixed because it's unique to the network i'm on. I thnk you for your assistance in the matter though :) and would gladly welcome any advice anyone else might have on the subject.

It seems like i'm having a lot of rather unique problems here as some people may have seen on another thread, so i'm hoping there is a link between them and, hopefully, a solution common to both problems.
