I've seen his profile, and none of it makes any difference. Here's why.

One does not need to be a long duration of membership to leave "valid" opinions: all duration of membership shows is that you've had some information describing your online persona in a database. The opinion scores, although guided, do not have to conform to any sort of perception of "accurate" scoring, and there is certainly no forced correlation between comments and scores.

Consider the problem of the rising average, and that fact that there are people out there who refuse to follow it. "5", by the original intent of the opinion system, is average. The average video quality of videos HAS been rising; I will soon show how your video quality could be perceived as "average". First, a word on scoring.

Video and audio quality are extremely subjective measures. I, for example, am used to extremely sharp images: I find myself often working with high-resolution computer graphics more and more, and I expect AMVs to strive for the sharp lines, vivid colors, and fluid motion that you can find in CG.

Are these unrealistic expectations? I do not think they are, especially since most anime is already produced with the aid of computers.

To give concrete evidence of how perceptions of video quality may differ, I downloaded your video. I saw the following problems:

- evident aliasing, bleeding on intro text
- evident blocking, smearing in introduction scenes
- evident macroblocking in face @ 1:06 - 1:07
- obvious banding in gradients, some of it from aforementioned blocking
- non-uniform color in scenes where uniform color should be expected (i.e. face in 02:59)
- evident smearing in high-motion scenes (a huge problem)

I know what you're going to say: "but all those problems were there in the fansub I used!"

Too bad. Shouldn't have used fansubs. Or, probably more realistically, you should have taken the time to carefully clean the footage.

This is enough for some people to give a 5, as the results are, in many ways, "average" for modern encoding techniques. Go check some of the doom9.org encoding tests if you don't believe me when I say that your encoding efforts are not exceptional.

Perhaps the reviewer just believed that you deserved 5s across the board. Fine. There are several courses of action that you can pursue if you feel that your pride has been grievously injured by such a heinous act.

(1) Deal with it.
(2) Send an email to the reviewer.
(3) Submit the opinion for deletion, with reasoning.

1) Email the person who left the review and ask them to clarify the scores and comments they left.

2) Wait a week or two, if the person hasn't done anything or has refused to change the opinion then...
