Clip freezes in WMM?

Some of the footage I am using in WMM is acting weird. Basically when I play a clip, each clip will be frozen for 1-2 seconds, then it will play. Is there any reason for this? Is there anyway to correct this? Another thing too, I can't use avi files in WMM, only WMV and MPG or MPEG files (it used to be the other way around, I couldn't use MPG or MPEG files, but I could use AVI's) Does anyone have any advice for me? Please? Thanks...

Download divx from www.divx.com . THat should fix your avi problems.

You shouldnt be using wmv files to edit. Read this.

Also, try downloading wmm2.1 from www.microsoft.com (Though you'l need service pack 2 to use it, so get that first). Its more stable than 2.0 .

Convert the clips you need to HuffYUV, that should work fine in WMM.

Other than that, I don't know, other than that WMM isn't so great with resources. Does the situation improve if you try playing the same clip more than once?

Really the WMM doesn't have great resources. I have the newest version of WMM on this computer.I was thinking about using it to make AMV with.

I also have DivX too.

on my old computer when I would make videos on it before it crashed I had the same problem you're having. I think it has to do with how much virtual memory your computer has. How much hard drive space does your computer have?

But she says that "some" of the clips don't work. Which means that some do. It could be, chelly_kitty, that you're using footage (downloaded ?) with bad compression characteristics (whatever that means

).

As for your AVI problem, you should first read up on codecs and stuff. "AVI" is like a box. You can have a bunch of boxes that all look the same, but inside they'll have completely different things.

Try downloading, unpacking, and importing one of these files into WMM (try the small one, Heaven In Motion):

This is a free video (no sound) from Sony. It is an AVI file using the DV codec. It should play smoothly in WMM assuming your PC is reasonably capable (say, 2 GHz, 512 MB or better).
