Exactly, Got2Maskit. Even though Sasuke was cool in some episodes (namely, the Haku fight), he quickly became selfish, whiny, and overdramatic. Far too much time is dedicated to his repetitive history, and we are forced to watch it several times over in the manga and anime.
Besides this point, Sasuke is weak. Even if he was mysterious at first, we quickly began to see the true face of Sasuke: a selfish, hateful, rude person. Even after he began to show some emotions towards his teammates (saving them and deciding that they were important in his life), Sasuke suddenly gets up and leaves. He decides that his own hopeless quest is more important than trying to improve himself and his life. Perhaps Sasuke isn't entirely to blame, but the endless emphasis on his past suggests that we should feel sorry for him or consider him "cool".
Kakashi is just as mysterious and he still manages to be cool... He's brave and weird and down-to-earth. I don't always like the mysterious characters (at times I do), but Sasuke is just an example of angst gone wrong. He's a selfish kid that blames everything on everyone else... He's a whiner, not a doer.
Those are my 2 cents on Sasuke. However, you're allowed to like him, shinodude. I just feel that you tried to tell us that everyone should like Sasuke when there are clearly far more people that hate him. (or the current Sasuke in the anime/manga).
i didnt mean to make it sound like every1 to like him as to my self hed be my ummmmmm lets think hmmmm about 7 or 8th favorit char my first is shino an second is gaara idk y tho LOL

You're right, but in this case, it is about hating a character. The original poster explained that. And then went off-topic about it, at length.Otohiko wrote:Making an anti-character video =/= hating a character.
I mean, Jesus. Do you think I hate Asuka or something?
It makes no sense to me in the first place (why hate a person that doesn't exist? why hate anything at all?), but that's what they want to do, so it's their time/energy to waste. I just don't think a video coming from that mindset is going to be very funny, that's all. It's a common misconception among people without much humor that bashing things you hate equals humor. It's... not, really. But it will probably be popular.

Being the person that started this thread, I felt the need to clarify my original post. Of course, I did have some mild interest in seeing a video that paired a quirky, interesting song (something along the lines of Weird Al) with Naruto... And one that included some wry, subtle connections between the characters and song would especially be appreciated.
However, I don't actively hate a pen-and-ink drawing enough to dedicate an entire video to bashing this character. I rarely hate any characters that are fictional, but I just don't like Sasuke.
My original post has some flawed logic, and I do accept this glaring fact. It was a momentary thought that wasn't created to incite controversy but simply a vague idea that would work best as a part of an AMV, not the premise of one.
Just like any other human, I am allowed to have a different viewpoint at a different time, so I no longer dislike Sasuke with the stupid intensity featured in the first post of this thread. In fact, I am long over my annoyance with him... I just wanted to see a fun video that would involve all of the characters instead of singling out one (i.e. Senshi on Springer, etc).
This thread is not an apology, however. It is merely a revision of my former thoughts, my misinterpreted intentions, and my relatively stupid comments. I do not believe, however, that posting such a thread makes me ignorant, depraved, and juvenile as several have implied. It merely proves the generally constant fact that humans will make mistakes in their lives, some of those being pointlessly-held beliefs.
I hope that this clarifies my former (and largely indifferent) stance and my current apathy. I merely suggested a video without thinking before I posted, but I am not the sort of person who hates a 2-D character with a vengeance. I do agree that I gave some of you ample evidence to suggest that I was no different from these people, but I am now taking back that video idea. So, before you waste even more time criticizing my supposed viewpoints, try and understand the simple but difficult-to-grasp fact that some posts are to be taken lightly. It's a forum about anime music videos, not life.

I didn't say that you were ignorant, depraved, and juvenile; don't project on me, thanks. Just said that bashing videos aren't very funny. It's hardly a rare thing - try being a shounen-ai fan around here - so chill. I basically said you were just like everyone else, not some sort of monster. But you've clarified, so that's not even relevant.
And if forum posts are to be taken lightly, ours are to be taken lightly too, so getting all defensive about it is a little hypocritical.
I'm glad to hear the clarification, and that you've gotten over the initial annoyance. The revised idea (if that's what I'm seeing) sounds like more fun.

I find these forums very interesting... I tend to post things that I don't necessarily believe but rather what I feel, what excites the strongest emotion at that moment. Maybe I should think before I post, because, looking back at my most recent tirade, I can see why I'd come across as somewhat tempermental and defensive.SarahtheBoring wrote:I didn't say that you were ignorant, depraved, and juvenile; don't project on me, thanks. Perhaps I was trying to justify my own foolish beliefs that I held when I typed the first post on this thread. Sometimes we feel the need to make up for our own mistakes, to save face, etc. When I did that, I admit that I went too far to establish my own innocence while pointing the blame at my supposed agitators (you, for instance), when your points were actually valid.
In reality, I do take back the first thread... I haven't disliked Sasuke strongly since months ago (I started watching Naruto in January), but some residual annoyance must have lead me to dislike him on that day. I don't believe in truly bashing characters, however, because they're a)fictional and b)2-D beings whose actions are determined by the person that created them. Therefore, my annoyance at Sasuke may be misplaced; perhaps I should be a little miffed at Kishimoto for always featuring Sasuke in those interminable flashback arcs in the manga.
Anyway, I meant no offense when I claimed that you attacked me without reason; in fact, I did the very same thing to you. And I'm sorry for that. However, I was a bit mad when you insinuated that I had no sense of humor or no life (even though you were directing it at bashing videos in general). I definitely overreacted and read too much into your comments. This post is an apology, unlike the last one, and I can safely say that I am ashamed of my rash judgements and shallow arguments.
I do regret that this discussion started off on a bad foot. I didn't want to attract flames or supporters; I just wanted to propose an idea. I think that my original post was misworded and poorly expressed... One glance at it evokes images of a violent, unfunny person with too much time. I was susceptible to my dislike of certain characters, I believe, and that lead me to propose a rather stupid idea.
I actually haven't seen any good "bashing" videos... Most were sloppily done and unfunny. The true gems have fun with the entire series, casting characters as certain voices in the song, etc. Excellent examples in the Naruto category include Ninja of the Night and Rock Lee: Mentos Spokesperson. I actually wanted to see that type of video, one with a funny, cute song that is either ironic or relevant when paired with a specific character.
To conclude, I apologize for directing my anger at you (who had valid criticisms to begin with) and I realize the fruitlessness of such a video. It's just not intelligent or humorous. I regret making such a bad impression on the boards, and I hope that I can participate in productive, open-minded discussions about AMVs in the future.

Ohhh, I understand the part about posting what you think at the moment and not necessarily a permanent belief - probably more than you know. (cough)
And my reply was, as you suggested, aimed slightly to the left of your comment, not just the first post here but a wider idea that it reminded me of and my own personal soapbox about bad comedy. That's not really fair, so I should apologize for that. Sorry about that. It's better to keep replies specific to this case and not assume that it can be lumped into a general category.
So, sorry for assuming that, thanks for clearing everything up, and what a warm-fuzzy feeling about getting a potential flamewar cooled off and settled down. Hooray. Thanks.

It's fine if you assumed that the video wouldn't be very funny... your assumptions would probably be quite true. After all, we are allowed to express ourselves freely on these boards.... Something that I failed to understand just a few days ago.
I was wrong to be so personally offended by your comments, especially when I suggested that all comments should be taken with a grain of salt.
Anyway, now that the little disagreement's over.... Can anyone suggest a funny song (preferably by Weird Al, Aquabats, or some obscure 80s band) that would go well with Naruto? Commericals and movie trailers could work too. =)
I would also like to hear suggestions featuring songs that haven't been used yet (or not often, at least). Thanks!
