...

it does work with lossy footage. Mjpeg is lossy footage, it works fine with that. It doesn't work *well* with codecs that use delta or b-frames, that's all.

As for png support it's not a real biggie as any program that can export a png can export a bunch of other formats that *can* be imported into premiere such as tiff, targa, bmp, psd etc.

Realtime preview is supported with editing cards. Realtime preview in software mode is always a matter of opinion, on my machine the preview is realtime.

What I meant was editing a fansub divx for example.

Yeah, ya got a point. Most image formats arent in any way significantly different to each other.

I was told otherwise

bum, it depends on the effect - with a hardware card this isnt required. (and even in software mode, the simple pressing enter to render the section generally takes less time to render than it would to play the section. I call that realtime preview.)

With vegas everything previews in absolute realtime. For example if I apply an effect onto a clip which is currently showing in the preview window (meaning the cursor is over the clip) and I move a slider to modify the effect, as im moving the slider the preview window updates in realtime to show exactly what I'm doing. Its helpfull when you want to tweak an effect to perfection. Premier pro 1/1.5 probably has this.

Anyway I just realised, why are we comparing older versions of software? When its 215 and were still here, reminiscing about the wonderfull video software of the good ol' days, then this discussion would be somewhat more meaningful :P
