Tekkoshocon 2005 AMV contest info and new rules.

Post by Illia Sadri » Fri Jan 07, 2005 10:20 pm

As was posted previously the previous coordinator for the amv contest, Dan Castore, was killed tragically in a car accident. It was a hard blow for both his family and his fellow staffers.

I am taking over in his stead so I wanted to come public with it as the time of the con is drawing near and I want to start getting videos in soon.

Very basic guidelines for the rules:

Length of video cannot exceed 6 minutes.

Preferred 720*480 resolution mpeg2 at 29.97fps. I can accept any 'normal' avi compression codec although make sure no divx logos are visible. For avi my preferred is huffy. mpeg1 is also permissible but not encouraged.

DO NOT send windows media, real media or quicktime. They are a pain to work with.

It can be interlaced or not.

Please if at all possible crop your bumpers. We will be making a standard bumper for each video in the contest so it saves me a bit of time to not include it in your copy.

All submissions must be pg-13 in rating at the most. This means if the song cannot play on the radio, pick another song or bleep out or otherwise get around the language. Very excessive violence and nudity will also result in the video not being shown.

Subtitles from a fansub or dvd release of a title will not be permitted. You may make your own subtitles if it relates to the context of your video.

Also footage needs to be relatively clean looking. I highly discourage using fansubs for this reason. If they are used please, please encode a high bitrate and if need be use virtualdub to clean up the picture. The videos are going to be projected on a large screen so this is important.

Submission Info:

All submissions need to be postmarked by Friday, Feb. 25th to be included in the contest. I will accept videos on cd or dvd media. I am not taking vhs because I had major problems with Ohayocon where vhs tapes were sent through a magnetic field while shipping and thus were ruined upon receipt. I do have ftp access for those wishing to submit that way so email me at unefemme_2001@yahoo.com to get the login info.

Mail-in Submissions are to be sent to this address

J. Lynn Hunt
ATTN: Tekkoshocon amv contest
PO Box 13
Johnson Creek, WI 53038

When submitting your video please include the following info:

Your real name:
Your net alias or Production Name: (basically whatever you want to be credited as)
Address:
Phone number:
email address:
Video Title:
Anime Used: (if over three say various)
Category: (drama, romance, action, comedy, and trailers) if not sure I will decide.

Make sure you label your disks with your name and vid title at the very least and send them in a protective case of some kind.

Okay mail in deadline is coming up. The 28th is the postmark deadline for all mail-in submissions.

I had a major problem with the original server that was being used for ftp uploads which caused a delay. The ftp deadline is extended to the 11th of March which is a Friday.

I followed up on all the email requests I had in my inbox regarding the matter. Anybody else who intends on submitting a video for the contest via ftp send me an email and I will give you the login information.

Thank you for your patience regarding the matter to all who had contacted previously and I look forward to seeing all of your videos.
