you know, I know everything here is database driven, but you dont have to be confined to the laws of code.
It could be done rather unoficially. Hell you could set up a damn forum poll and have like 1 week ehere anyone who wants to list their MEP can do so, and then we vote on the poll based on those that were listed.
the results of the poll could be added to the official winners page of the 2005 VCAs
just a suggestion

I was unaware that the VCAs stifled so much creativity. Maybe everyone that feels so creatively stifled should stop working on these multi-editor projects so they can work on other videos that they can win contests with.<s>dokool</s> Unappreciative bastard who knows how to use the strikethrough tags wrote:No reason to stifle the creativity of so many editors. It's a matter of official recognition for something that's significantly affected the scene. Considering half a dozen people mentioned multi-editor projects in that 2004-->2005 thread, this is a valid argument. I've pretty much proven that the 'official' excuse for not having an MEP category is flawed as hell. What's stopping you?paizuri wrote:I was unaware that the VCAs stifled so much creativity. No, I don't think you've proven anything other than you think you are completely right.dokool wrote:It's a matter of official recognition for something that's significantly affected the scene. The technical difficulties lie with the fact that the AMV database and the VCA voting software currently cannot handle the multi-editor projects properly. While the database could (and should) be modified in the future to handle these, it would delay the rest of the VCAs for a substantial amount of time.
So, why can't we just delay the VCAs until the software modifications are complete, you ask?
Well, from a logistical point of view, the nature of the contest itself. They encompass the previous year, so it is only natural to want to hold the contest as soon as possible so that the AMVs from last year are still fresh in people's minds. Even so, this contest takes nearly half a year to finish. If we were to delay the start for a few months, people may forget what they liked from 2004 and many deserving videos may be overlooked. We would really like to avoid that situation, so the choice was made to exclude multi-editor projects from this year's VCAs.
From a technical point of view, in order to have the voting system work, the vids/projects have to fit within definable parameters. Currently, those parameters are ambiguous. A system will be developed to remedy that situation since full uploads of massive projects is coming soon. However, this system is unlikely to be in place in time for this year's VCA. Therefore, the category cannot exist this year but will definitely be available next year. Any help on making these software improvements are of course welcome, however we ask that you are willing (and able) to dedicate a substantial amount of time to these efforts if you decide to volunteer.
And from the fairness aspect, while the previous information does not necessarily preclude the "Short Form" Multi-Editor category that you propose, it would simply be unfair to have a category for Short Forms and not one for Long Form projects merely because of their size (you have no proof that the "widespread" Bittorrent distribution is as widespread as you say it is).
This is why there will be no Multi-Editor Category in the VCAs this year. If we hold a contest that includes multi-editor projects, we don't merely want to do it, we want to do it right. It is with our deepest apologies that we are unable to have the category this year, but this is a fact that you will have to accept.
That being said, AD has an idea, but I'll let him talk about it when he's ready.

See, that gives me <i>some</i> relief. My frustration spawns from the fact that an MEP category was denied for exactly the same reason <i>last</i> year, and again no indication was given that this will be changed in the future. While I see where there are problems, giving the same rejection two years in a row without indicating that it's being worked on for the future tells me that there's an unwillingness to make significant changes to the VCAs, especially since there haven't been any changes made in 2 years...paizuri wrote:This is why there will be no Multi-Editor Category in the VCAs this year.
