This is the first time I've posted, but I do need some help, and what better place to get it than here?
I've been ripping footage from my Giant Robo DVDs all day (and night).
Aside from that, I started some pre-work with my downloaded footage, just for some planning. I really wanted to use the "Under Ice" song by Stark Effect, but there are reasons I can't.
It's been done, sort of.
The Under Ice Eva/FLCL video. The concept for my Giant Robo AMV was basically the same, lyrics matching the visuals. And they do.
But I don't want to do something that's already been done.
So, any suggestions? I don't want any heavy type of rock music. Preferably in English..
Though I'd still consider some Japanese songs, just NO rock music. I mean, no angsty hardcore punk/metal rock at least.
That was way too long-winded for one question.
*sigh* May I ask for help?

I have one: do what *you* want to do. We're all in this for fun; don't let anyone try to stop you from making something you'll enjoy.vorx wrote:Aside from that, I started some pre-work with my downloaded footage, just for some planning. My next video (already complete; will be released this week) uses Evanescence's "My Immortal".
You know how many videos have been done with that song? Over 160.
Will it bring my Originality score down? Almost certainly.
Do I care? No.
I made a video I wanted to make and I made it something I like.
So make what you want to make and don't feel you have to apologize. Besides, as far as I'm concerned, it's not "something that's already been done" unless the concept is the same -- and in my book, if it uses a different source, then the concept isn't the same.

Also, it's good to know that someone else around here knows about Stark Effect.

Interesting story about that Under Ice video...
I actually came up with the same idea to mix Eva and FLCL to that song while driving home from school. You can probably imagine my shock with Scintilla popped the idea (which he also thought of independently) to me over IM as soon as I got home. But he had the ambition and the resources and I didn't.
Thing is...I may make that video I thought of anyway...kinda like a "sister video" I guess. While we were discussing it we found out that although we came up with the exact same anime/song combo, we both had significantly difference visions as to how it should be done. His is more lyrics based. I saw mine to be more mood based with emphasis on lyrics (and the anime would be flipped so that Eva was with Under Pressure). I think it would be interesting to see how our styles compare and contrast.
My point is that even if the anime and song choice ARE the same, go for it. Just because it's been done doesn't mean that your vision and soandso's vision will be the same. You might see things totally differently.

Thanks for the encouragement ^_^
I wanted to get this done in time for MegaCon..
I showed the insane-mega-compressed version to a few people(ie: everyone I could bother on my buddy list)on AIM. It's fuzzy downloaded footage, and isn't as intricatelity(sp) synched, but the response so far has been great.
I got the first two (of seven) episodes ripped, and spent about four hours ripping five, six and seven... yeah, and they aren't working. Ah well, I'll try again today, I may have messed something up. I think I encoded the first two episodes differently, which may be the problem.
By the way, has anyone seen Giant Robo? And as odd as this may sound, it's NOT a giant robot mech anime. False advertisement! ^_^
