image sequence to .gif & vid codecs suporting alpha chan

Post by bum » Mon Jan 03, 2005 5:58 am

Two questions

1- Anyone know of a program which could convert an image sequence (.png is my prefered format) into an animated gif? Like, something simlpe and fast. Oh and, gifs support alpha channels, right?

2- Are their any video codecs which suport colour+alpha chanels, i've read that most only support one or the other. .mov (apparently) supports colour+alpha but I want something I can edit with (even if its loosy, just not .mov) .

I can't answer #2, but your answer for #1 is Adobe ImageReady. It has an 'Import Folder as Frames' function that pretty much does just what you want it to do.

Thanx for that. But I was looking more for a small, simple program thats tailored to the task (and one which doesnt cost an arm).

Paint Shop Pro has a free trial and contains Animation Studio which is great for gif manipulation.

Ulead sells a program that is dedicated to GIF animation: http://www.ulead.com/ga/runme.htm. Retails for $50.

(If you're thinking of ordering it direct from Ulead, the free-shipping offer ends today.)

Pricelessware is listing an older version of Ulead's GIF Animator. Looks like it's freeware: http://pricelessware.org/thelist/web.ht ... 0Animation
