mixing music tracks and anime tracks
I'm questioning the idea of dubbing a sample from an anime over a music track. I have seen it done before and done well at that. But call me a purist i think that the original audio track should remain intact. partially because if you're using a spoken line out of the anime you have to decide weither you want english or jap. w/subtitles. . either way some people won't like it. and also someone who really loves the music track deosn't need to hear kagomi yelling "inuyasha!!" over a nice instramental. But i was curious what the various thoughts of voice/music overs were.

He's talking about incorporating vocal samples from the actual anime into the music.ifihadaninja wrote:i take it your not talking about lip syncing.
ive never heard of this technique before. it doesnt sound like i'll like it either.
Here's a couple reasons why it's a bad idea:
1. Your video can't be shown at cons if it has dialogue from the English dub because of copyright wrestrictions.
2. It's distracting to me, personally. I recently betaed the video of a good friend, and the video was excellent up until a part of the video had Japanese audio in it from the show, with English subtitles. It totally took me out of the video, and I ended up not really getting back into it for the last 30 or so seconds.
So it's pretty much lose/lose. It's really hard to do well, but it's easy to do poorly.

Consider this fine video (which you might remember from ACen, ANEXT, Anime Expo, Ani-Magic, Otakon, AWA Pro, and who knows where else). The Shamanic Princess audio in the (instrumental) intro helped to explain the story for those who haven't seen the series. Personally, I thought it worked rather well for that purpose.ifihadaninja wrote:what i wanna know is why someone would attempt something like that.

Re: mixing music tracks and anime tracks
I'm feeling argumentative. (When am I ever not?)
Also: Not everyone submits to cons. I don't give a flying rat's ass what con regulations are, because it doesn't apply to me. Still not going to mix dialogue and music, because I don't care to, but it's kind of a leap of logic to assume that absolutely every AMV ever, anywhere, is going to be submitted to a con.
OK, I had fun. Done now.
Okay. Why are you now telling us to never ever do it, then?basterd!! wrote:I'm questioning the idea of dubbing a sample from an anime over a music track. I have seen it done before and done well at that.
Why are decisions bad?partially because if you're using a spoken line out of the anime you have to decide weither you want english or jap. w/subtitles. .
So? Fuck 'em.either way some people won't like it.
Matching mood between the visual and audio is kind of a major component of AMVs. If it jars, it jars because you fucked up, not because it's dialogue. Also, if you need to hear just the instrumental, listen to the damn CD.and also someone who really loves the music track deosn't need to hear kagomi yelling "inuyasha!!" over a nice instramental.
I really couldn't care less, as I don't intend to use them. But I find it odd that you're telling everyone else what to do with their own AMVs.But i was curious what the various thoughts of voice/music overs were.

lol sarah. I think it is all a matter of perspective I mean really if you don't like it don't watch it. I am using some of the shows audio to do a small intro before the music starts and I think it sounds cool. If people can use it effectively then what is the problem? Whay bother to question it unless you had the smallest chance of using it? let others do what they want and they won't jump down ur throat(though sarah's post was quite entertaining and expressed my thoughts rather well). Well i'm off to continue my video and hope that the render time left has actualy gone down like it supposed to...
