At the moment, I'm quite contented with the way this forum runs (but then again, I rarely post outside of the General Anime section, so I'm just speaking with experiences I've had in that neck of the forum).
I think we just got a little extra newb traffic over the summer. That's what I've observed anyway and, to me, it makes sense. Most of the newbs seem to be younger than most of the regulars, so they're just kids with extra free time on their hands.
It does get a tad annoying when some of them seem to lack the ability to type a sentence correctly, though.

There's always going to be newb bashing. That's just the way forums work. I'm not justifying it, by any means. Just stating experiences that I've had with other forums.

Not to criticize the methods of other forums, but a-m-v.org could be much worse in my opinion. It could be totally overrun with threads, like Gaia Online. Don't get me wrong, it's a good site but I wouldn't be suprised in the least if the majority of the threads started on that site end up in the "Recycle Bin" part of the forum. There are tons of repeat threads and in my opinion, there really isn't much discussion going on, except for the in the "official threads."

Okay, the Org isn't as bad as that (except for maybe a few members who go out of their way to be asses). From my observations usually only the "bad" newbies end up getting flamed, or just newbies that are complete l@mErz.

Well, what you, as the forum members, can do is to just ignore the off-topic commentary completely. That makes it easier to keep threads open because we can just split the off-topic posts without having to try and edit other posts which may contain actually useful or relevant information to keep the flow of the thread intact.
