If you like some really depressive stuff, try End of Green it´s very nice german gothic rock, altought I don´t know if the lyrics are a bit to disturbing for some people.

You could try "To Go Beyond" by Enya. I've always figured it was intended to be some kind of funeral dirge, and the Irish strike me as being very similar to the Japanese in some ways. If Enya's too lightweight for what you have in mind, try looking at some of the songs by the Cranberries that never became radio hits.
