I just had to do it...
I am the only on on this board that knows SHIT about the "punk rock" music scene, or underground/emo/indie/hardcore what ever the fuck you want to call it.
I went on Warped Tour as a stage tech. I spend my own personal time interviewing hese bands, for a major website that's in the works of launching. I review music that these bands record labels mail me copies of for free, because they trust and like my opinions on this music scene. I'm friends with an endless amount of kids that are actually IN these bands. I know a bunch of people in the music scene on top of my friends who i don't want to be friends with (but still work with as i'm obligated to), such as good charlotte and yellowcard.
This is my life, my career, and none of you little people know ANYTHING about it, except for maybe 2 or 3 other people. If you think I might mean you by those 2 or 3, i probably don't mean you. These people tend to be appropriatly modest.
So stop trying to seem all bad ass infront of eveyone, you know nothing and everyone you're trying to look smart in front of knows you know nothing. You just make yourself look dumb.
As for Nailz, Nailz is a very smart guy with an exceptional music taste and knowledge. Nailz likes Metal. This is the only difference. So stop being idiots and think you're better with music than him, simply because he's not paraiding around talking about how amazing Green Day's new album is.
If you look at some one's join date, you can tell how long they've been here. Just a small piece of advice. Some one that's been here for YEARS, is most likely much older and smarter than you. So try not to make an idiot out of yourself in front of them.
And so this ends my music ellitist post of the year 2004.
I also apologize to everyone on this board that knows me well, I'm dissapointed in myself. I didn't expect to snap so easily. Kids these days are idiots though, I thought some of them might benefit a reality check.

Summary:
For other favorite artists of mine, this proximity varied anywhere from a few dozen miles to (depending on where you stand on afterlife) another plain of existence...
I only buy a few CD's/DVD's each year. I don't hang out with other fans of the same music (main reason being, there are none around).
I don't really care what my artists are like off-stage, or even on stage, and if I saw Mr. F sitting in a local Starbucks, I would probably pass by, respecting his private time. Nor do I want to be any closer to him than those 100 feet unless I am otherwise welcomed by him.
Music is not my life. I spend precious little time really listening to it, in abscence of free time and energy. And if I barely have time to listen, why should I concern myself with the 'life around the music'? Why should I spin around in proper music circles?
I don't care.
My music is still there, and I'm still there in my music. If your suggestion is that through your advanced fetishizing the inherent and delineated meanings of music you understand it all better than I do, than my belief is that you couldn't be more wrong.
I've never gotten closer than about 100ft from my favorite artist, and I once managed to write a forum post interesting enough for him to comment on.Jace wrote:I>U

Oto, I'd of exected you to understand my post better than this. I was not talking to or about you.
I mean the 14 year old kids that have been members of this forum for less than a year that try t tell nailz he knows nothing about music, and they know everything, because they listen to taking back sunday.
You handle music properly and respectfully. My post was in no way about you. If you fit into my post anywhere, it'd be the 2 - 3 other people i'm not ashamed of.

Keep in mind, I don't really check this Gen Music forum all that often, nor do I read threads that I'm not directly interested in, so perhaps my opinion is pretty much moot. But nevertheless, my question would be, wouldn't it make more sense to just ignore the ignorant 14 year olds, rather than make an entire post dedicated to telling them how much more you know about the music scene then they do? I mean, it seems like these "kids" have already made up their mind about what they like and don't like, and if they're as ignorant as you make them out to be, I don't really see them changing their ways or thought process after reading your speech about how you're the only person in the entire org that knows anything about the punk/emo/etc scene.
Just an outsiders opinion. Carry on, carry on.

Ah, well, in that case, it's the usual problem - people listening to the right music for the wrong reasons, or wrong music for the right reasons.
The only good thing you can do about this is keep questioning their choice of reasons until they (hopefully) figure out what's wrong with the picture.

This is kind of a personal defense of nailz, then? Sort of an anti-flame?
Lemme balance the equation. I know jack crap about metal, punk, emo, etc. I just like what I like. Not gonna name names, but SOME PEOPLE seem to get their jollies off yelling at newbs, telling them they suck and that their musical tastes suck, and that's that. Of course the neophytes yell back. They think that their favorite band is the best because they haven't heard better yet. Not all of us have been gifted with the pleasure of hearing a perfect tonal/rhythmic/sonic/aural/whatever landscape/song/compsition/whatever (wow, that was silly). In fact, I bet none of us has (someone got a drect line on the Music of the Spheres, maybe?). Therefore, someone can rightly say that our favorite bands suck, and show us a composition that will dazzle us and turn us forevermore from our favorites. Maybe. The more likely scenario is that we'd tell that loser to STFU and we'd go back to the corner of bliss we'd staked.
I own 7 Man or Astro-Man CDs, a sizeable selection of their total work. Many people have told me they suck. I hear their cries, and I am unmoved, because I like the heck out of them and will continue to do so, no matter if Liquid Tension Experiments blows them out of the water on all counts.
So what if a person wants to shout at the top of his lungs OMG LINKIN PARK RULEZ YOUR BANDS SUCK HAHA!!! Ignore him and move on, because he's a fool. Actually, ignore him because in his own mind he is right and no arguing from you will change his mind. It'll change on it's own or not.
/me awaits the days when Linkin Park is on oldies stations. "Killer classics from the 90s, Zeros, and Teens!"

I 100% completely agree with Jace. Never argue to him or Nailz about music. Both of them know their stuff, and have evidence to back it up. Nailz got me hooked on metal, with Flint coming along later with even more bands that kicked ass.
My biggest gripe is that people think that Slipknot is the band that most people consider true metal, and everything else is not. Well, Slipknot is not the only metal out there. Ask Nailz, Flint, Farlo, or myself and we can recommend some awesome bands. Oto, Kai, rubyeye and many more can do the same. I respect them very much.
I also agree with BMA for the most part. If some "person" (don't know how to describe them) comes along and starts bragging about LP, just ignore them. But, if they constantly bother you, then you prove them wrong about whether or not LP is the best band ever.

Hey Mojo JoJo, you're right, we must learn how to just ignore them, as that's all we can do at some times. You're right, but you miss the point. We already know how to ignore them, it's what usually goes on. It doesn't change the fact they're a constant annoyance, or make an occasional "stfu" worthless. A little stfu can do quite nicely from time to time.
