Guided help for newbs

Post by Lune » Wed Dec 22, 2004 8:25 pm

I doubt it's any secret 99% of new members either overlook or outright ignore the numerous amount of faqs (and or links to help guides) in every forum here. Nothing like this idea was in place when I signed up (atleast i don't think so) so don't shoot me if this has already been covered I did a search! Force new members to atleast view each faq before they are allowed to see any other topics in each forum during their 2 week dl ban. Undoubtedly there will be people sending emails "I can't see teh topics!!! wtfbbq!!?

This could be avoided somewhat by explaining it on the same page where it tells you downloads are suspended for 2 weeks after signing up. Maybe this will only have the affect of people clicking on the faq's once but atleast they will know where they are in the future if anything. I have no idea how difficult this would be to do but that's my suggestion.

Since you apparantly don't keep up with recent events, the two week waiting period was rescinded.

:? Don't concur with that.
Newbie’s should suffer like everyone else before them did.

That's a good idea.
Personally would do anything to avoid encountering more 'stupid noobs.'
Make them read.

Plus there's no way to MAKE someone read anything. Having it on the screen for them and having the person read and understand it are two totally different things. :(
Life's short.

over 90% of the members don't need to read the guides and half the faqs because they don't make vids anyways :?

doesn't everyone have to read the forum rules when they sign up?

No they just have to click on a button saying that they agree to the forum rules. Most people dont actualy bother reading them.

:? Surely you jest with that comment.
If that was that case then the situation would be even worse...
That would mean every one of the 'stupid noobs' just decided to break the rules.
Either case the end result is undesirable.
