just wondering....

Post by Pwolf » Tue Dec 07, 2004 2:15 pm

i'm bored and figured i should see what people think about a guide i'm working on. I don't want to realese it now, but the guide goes over a bunch of different scene manipulation techniques:

1. Advanced Lip-syncing Using Masks
2. Using Still Frames
     a. Using a Still Frame as a Scene
     a. Using Still Frames With Video
     a. Using a Still Frame to Remove Unwanted Movement
3. Color Manipulation
4. Horrizontal Flip
5. Virtual Clips
6. Speed

a few people who i've let see beta's of my guide have said it's a lot of help... what do people here think (well without seeing it yet >.>)? does it seem interesting? Should i add anything not listed, or does anyone want me to cover another technique?

I have to go, i'm in class... so i'll post an update later...

ok the guide is about manipulating your footage to either:

1. look different so it fits your concept or idea
or
2. fit in the length of time you need it to

using masks, still frames, changing color settings and applying filters to video to change the look of the scene allows the editor to get away from the regular cuting and fading while still keeping the simple look.
then, being able to make a scene fit into a length longer then it or use a still frame to fit the length gives you better control over your scene so you can use exactly what you want without trying to find a different scene.

I added the Virtual clip segment because it's a great tool to help you do the rest of the techniques. I also just finished a segment on creating masks from video.

The guide uses Adobe Premiere 6.5 and MS Paint. i chose ms paint to show you that it is possible... but Photoshop would be a lot easier, lol.

Thats all i can think of at the moment.

well i sorta cover them. not in any great detail though.

well.. i cover changing speed settings, but as you make it slower and slower, the video gets choppy... i'll see if i can work that in somewhere, but i don't see it as being very "useful" due to the way the scene will playback. i'll play around and see what i come up with.

if i'm reading it right, it's more like a a ghosting effect maybe?

I'd like to get a look at this guide, see if it covers anything I haven't figured out already. It could come in handy on the video I'm working on now. I definiately think it's a good idea, it could be of great help to newer editors. Hell, I went for over a year before I even knew how to what that little transition track was for, don't get me started on anything more advanced then that. It could be of great help to newer editors.

Do virtual clips even work in Adobe Premiere Pro? I can't find mention of them anywhere in the help files.

Though the ability to make multiple sequences and use sequences in other sequences is just as good if not better. :D

Yea, virtual clips were replaced by the ability to nest sequences.

my lipsync protion doesn't actually show you how to lipsync, but shows you have to remove any jerky movement in the background if you do.
