AWA 11 (yes already planning) questions 4 a first CON visit

Well, AD, you are absolutely right.

I've had to deal with a convention hotel res. before (non-anime) and have no idea for the life of me how that slipped my mind

Anyways yes, AWA does list the group code: "AWAAWAA". However this is incorrect.

Upon contacting the R.W. I was disclosed quite a bit on two separate enquires, here it is in full:

AWA group codes for e-booking:
AWEAWEA - Single rooms
AWEAWEB - Triple/Quad rooms
AWEAWEC - Club level suites (no room remaining)

Details regarding each AWA rate follow:
Single rooms - $109.00 (USD +tax)
Triple/Quad rooms - $129.00 (USD +tax)
Triple/Quad rooms+ - $139.00 (USD +tax)
Suites significantly higher (Club/and non-club) and I lost the information when my last post attempt failed.

I would suggest calling the hotel at 1-770-953-4500, asking for reservations, and telling the booking staff that you are affiliated with "Anime Weekend", and you'll have more flexibilty than online. And this approach negates knowledge of the group codes. Have I redeemed myself?

As this is all relevant to Convention Exchange and not the Anime Convention forum. I've posted a topic there. I'd like to preserve this as an advice thread for keyboardsamurai. This is the topic.

AWA was pretty fun. Me and Farlo drove down there. And although we got a flat and I was sick for most of the con, I still enjoyed it. Next year I'm flying down, 11 hour drive is quite annoying.

I've been to about 4 cons now and I've kept the same basic strategy thoughout all of them.

1. Bring lots of cash. Assume what your base price will be (con price, hotel costs, food) and then ask yourself what kind of anime spending habits you have. I say bring all your money just incase.

2. If your gonna cosplay be prepared to pose. No matter where you go people always want to take your picture. Also the simpler the costume the better. Low maintenence will save you time and effort.

3. Schedule. As soon as you arrive and get your schedule, plan out what events you want to go to and where they are. Nothing kills the con buzz more than not knowing where to go and missing stuff because of it.

4. Get together. If you plan on getting together with other AMVers then find out what they look like. Cons attract tons of people and the chances of finding a few select people is hard. Luckily at AWA we have a get together and during AMV related things, everyone tends to sit together. I don't know how many years it's been but I've found a way every year to miss my chance to hang with Machine and MexicanJunior.

5. Read all the rules. Its always a safe bet to read all the rules of the con on their website.

6. Enjoy every minute of it. AWA only comes around once a year. Make tons of memories and treasure them until the next year comes around.

7. Get drunk and get laid. Unlike A-kon I have found the AWA has tons of hot fangirls and I have also found that hooking up with them isn't all too hard. As far as drunken-ness goes, hang around Mr P. Not only will sanity go out the door but a steady stream of booze seems to come your way when you're around him and other AMVers.

Hey I went with one guy to AWA X (who, btw, is never going with me to a con again). He hooked up with one chick Sat and took another to his POS van Sun. I feel so sorry for those girls, but at the same time I think they must not have had much respect for themselves.
