Opinion Average Info

or we could do like star ratings...
if the reviewer consistently rates within a certain range, like 98% of the time gives out an average 9, or an average on a video, then discount their reviews completely for the global average, and the rating of the video.

In my case, with an average of 5, some of my videos are bellow 5, some are above 5, they are mostly in a 4 point spread, between 3 and 7. This means I'm not reviewing everything the same.

Also, videos with scores of all 10's or all 1's should probably be discounted, or maybe even all 10's except for 1-2 ratings. Nothing is perfect, sorry! Nothing is complete trash either, no matter what it is (I've oped a few of these, and even being very cynical you end up with a 2-3 average score)

Well, over 70% of my ops are within 1 point range (8.71-9.71), and the rest aren't that far below for the most part. But I'll be rather upset if they were suddenly 'discounted', because I do put a bit of effort and rational thought into them - and this would suddenly imply that my scores are unimportant and lazy.

So much for encouraging more ops - isn't that what we're trying to do here, not the opposite?

That sounds far more radical than anything I suggested.

It sounds like you have a very through and carefully thought out method of giving grades for music videos. As you know, not everyone is that thoughtful or careful.

I personally wouldn't mind if the scores were done away with altogether. I mean we have the star scale for ranking videos. Pretty much everyone seems to agree that the numbers people give you on opinions dont matter nearly as much as the words that back them up, so why not just eliminate the scoring altoether? If there were only comments, then people would probably be more prone to write usefull comments as well, rather than just writing 3 lines of pointless drivel just to give their favorite video straight 10s.

Before you overeact (wait, too late), notice I said 98%.
So it would only discount people who just go 10 10 10 9 10 10 10 9 10 on every video. Not someone who would actually put more thought. Of course you could tweak it until happy, just like the star scale discounter.

I don't think I'd mind getting a 3-4 from you so long as you included phrases like, "you're rythym management is like a retarded kid trying to perform stomp." in the comments. Sure I'd feel bad, but I'd be to busy laughing to care.

Me, I would use the whole sectrum, however I tend not to review videos I don't like, so I've never really had to drop below the 5.

That sounds like a really good idea. The text is the meat and potatoes of an opinion.

Actually, having thought it over, I think simply the *option* of leaving scoreless reviews would be better. I know that I would write a lot more then, not having to either worry about offending someone with accurate scores, or lieing and giving inflated scores. Hopefully this can get implemented!
