Help please with PSX ripping

Post by The14thGOD » Mon Nov 22, 2004 11:44 pm

i cant seem to get any psx (ff7/8/9) videos onto my computer.

i have used the psxmc thing and no version of it works, i get an error that says

"can not read TOC from cd, drive may not be ready"

and its reading the disc just fine, (this is anew comp and the disc drive is fine, works with anything else)

anyone got any ideas of what i can do?

thanks in advance

that won't help at all good sir...

ps2 and ps1 do things very differently

what I recommend is you first get <a href="http://www.zophar.net/utilities/downloa ... psmplay</a>, well that's what I used, I'm sure the program you're using would do the same thing

now, here's what I did for my many wacky ff videos...I would create an image file of the disk(s) using cdrwin...I believe .bin files is all psmplay supports so you might check psmxc to see if it supports .iso...

well, once the image file was created, I would scan it with psmplay and it would find all the .str, .iki and .xa files available and since it was reading from the harddrive, it made the process much faster and with no chance of reading error...

oh, one last thing...have you tried opening up your psx disc with explorer...just to see if the computer at least recognized that there was a disk in there...if not, then it could just be a dirty/scratched cd...hope some of this helped

/end
Oh how convenient. A theory about God that doesn't require looking through a telescope.

http://fatoprofugus.net/ff8/ helped me immensely with ripping the ff8 discs. It runs through dos, but the instructions are really straight forward. It seems like it would be faster than making an image of the cds. but now that I think about it, you probably do have to make an image, of a sort, because there was a command you did before actually copying the files, but whatever. I think psmplay converts to avi, so the str shouldn't be a problem.

I haven't tried to extract anything from 7, and very little from 9, but sadly enough, there was something called 'psxtulz' And while it's very.. suspiciously named.. it seemed to work for what I had wanted it to. (and I haven't noticed any leaps and bounds of spyware or hacking or viruses. which is a plus.) Of course that was late at night several weeks ago, and I haven't tried it since, but I'm just throwing it out there.

- Check to see if the CD drive is selected in PsxMC options.
- If it can't access via SPTI, use ASPI. (Install ForceASPI beforehand).
- If none movie was found after the scan, then it's either the disc has no movies, or it's cleverly hidden. If the latter is the case, you need to use a certain PSR plug-in to get it.

Good luck.

I used to get that error message - I just kept clicking "retry" and then it would say "can't find such [some thing], is it elsewhere?" or something like that, so I just clicked "yes" and it would then work fine, loading all the .str files.
