Greetings, all. I've read the guides and I see that there is a page for mpeg1 encoding, but what about mpeg2 for DVD authoring? Is the profile going to be the exact same but just change from mpeg to mpeg-2? And what about the PAR; 720x480 or the one used in the guide?
my AMV files:
audio: wav format using toolame as conversion engine for Mpeg Layer2 audio.
video-> served via avs file, 24P
PAR: 720x480 (same as the rip from DVD, imported, edited, exported, filtered w/ aviSynth and saved using Huffyuv/ VirtualdubMod, yada, yada, yada)
I'm kinda unclear about the finer details. I know about setting a 3:2 pulldown flag so that the hardware DVD player wll do its thing, but I'm in the dark about the rest of the settings. (I know that once the file is encoded that I will need a DVD authoring program to burn it.) I read through some of the guides on the Doom9 site, but I'm lookin for instructions that are more 'AMV' specfic like the one for encoding mpeg-1.
TMPGenc for Mpeg2 question

Re: TMPGenc for Mpeg2 question
Shouldn't you just be feeding it straight PCM and letting TMPGEnc handle the conversion to MPEG-1 Layer II? Which, I believe, should be at a really high bitrate, something like 384Kbps.Guld_Bowman_02 wrote:audio: wav format using toolame as conversion engine for Mpeg Layer2 audio.
Or for no quality loss at all, there's also the "Linear PCM" audio option (but only if you're saving as .M2V+.WAV, not .MPG).
Yes, the resolution should be 720x480. Display aspect ratio should be 4:3 for normal anime, 16:9 for anamorphic.Guld_Bowman_02 wrote:PAR: 720x480 (same as the rip from DVD, imported, edited, exported, filtered w/ aviSynth and saved using Huffyuv/ VirtualdubMod, yada, yada, yada)
Try this: http://www.otakuvideo.com/files/template.zipGuld_Bowman_02 wrote:I'm kinda unclear about the finer details. It contains a few different TMPGEnc templates, and one of them is meant for DVD authoring.
The Otaku Video servers seem to be down at the moment though.
Having never encoded files for DVD before, I couldn't suggest anything further.

Thanks, Scintilla!!
I did some 'google'ing aroung and found some helpful info on doom9 (of course) and cdfreaks.com, just to name a few. I'll do some experimenting with some CD/DVD RW's to see what gives me the results that i'm looking for, cuz mpg-1 on a VCD sucks like hell; even if you encode from the original uncompressed aviSynth filtered file. It seems like there alot of options cuz some of the info in the guides on doom9's site assume that you won't be able to inverse telecene anime (in some cases), but after reading and RE-reading things began to make sense and become a little more clear....
Thx again for the help...

When I'm making beta DVDs, I use the "DVD NTSC" setting in the TMPGEnc 2.5 wizard with audio selected as "VBR MPEG-1 Layer II". I don't change any of the other settings. Ulead's MovieFactory accepts the file as-is and does not try to re-encode it before burning the disc.
"Linear PCM" would probably be better for the audio, but I haven't been able to get MovieFactory to work with the m2v file format.
For beta runs, this works well enough and only takes about 15 minutes to make a disc. I think I made a contest submission this way once and that worked, too.
I'm looking at the "High DVD" setting in the AWA profiles now (that zip file you can't get to). The basic parameters are no different than the default "DVD NTSC" setting, but some of the settings are different in the AWA profile.
