BTW: Otohiko - apparently root-access hosting does already exist, and my folks are using it at the moment to set up a website for their landscaping accents (essentialy pretty hand-painted birdhouses and mailboxes - I'm honestly very impressed with the quality of their work) business. I'll have to ask them what the rates and bandwidth limits are, because it might be the case that such a solution is really both the cheapest and most effective way to handle the technical infrastructure behind this kind of project, especially with the ever-growing limitations artificially imposed on cable internet service.

rose4emily wrote:Finally, there's still Pen-Pen's video (which I know will arrive as soon as is reasonably possible), and Songbird's narrations (okay, so I know I've recieved most of them already, but the external drive I backed them up on is having some hardware-level issues and refuses to let me read anything beyond the 18 GiB mark - on a 120 GiB drive). It's a good thing I had everything else put in multiple places, but the narratives - being the files recieved most recently, are currently inaccessible on my end. I have a couple of friends here who might be able to help me retrieve them, but it might be faster for Song to resubmit them.

I hereby give Song permission to hit me with one (1) large blunt object of her choosing.
O_O Nooooo! *Gets out stick* Image I have to redo them! Image I thought I didn't need them anymore so I......deleted them! Image *Anime style tear fountains*

C++ must be melting my brain.

I already had DWP's images. It was AznRaver's that I don't have. Wrong Chris.

I need to get some sleep.

DVD still hasn't come. Getting worried...

As far as hosting goes I stumbled onto this site which offers 100 gig a month transfer (5 gig storage) for 5 bucks a month if you sign up for a while. Split a few ways that might be an option.

Mmmm... those prices aren't bad at all. I think I'll see if there's something like "Consumer Reports" for web-hosting.

They also have the most attractive web site I've ever seen for an Internet Service Provider (a group of businesses that I think should have much better-designed websites than most have). Just an observation.

For my upcoming summer/Junior year software project, I'm thinking to use Sourceforge if I can figure out the whole project registration and administration bit. Being software, I don't need the kind of enormous disk footprint and transfer bandwidth this project has required, but I will need a forum and a very well-managed submission system. I was originally hoping to set up that infrastructure myself, but am starting to consider the idea that it might be better to let Sourceforge take care of it.

Funny thing, though, Sourceforge actually has a clause in its project registration requirements specifically forbidding its use for collaborative audio and video media projects. Not that this would fit on to their 150 MiB disk limit anyhow, I just thought that was amusing.

---

My CS Project is now done. Yeah!!!! (picture arm-waving Kermit the Frog). I actually got a whole ten hours of sleep last night, too - the most I've had as a unbroken block in months. I am now feeling ready to resume work on the intro.

Since we're (once again) behind my target schedule (partially my fault, so I'm really not complaining) I can actually tie the intro animation in with the final "anything goes" project for my animation class - which is due about a week and half from now. The original "sliding pictures" version really sucks, so this is my best plan for making one that is a worthy introduction to the videos that follow it. RIT's on a funny three-quarter schedule, so my current set of classes are coming to a close very soon now. My next set of classes are going to be absolutely brutal in terms of workload, so I really have to wrap this up before the end of my vacation if I'm going to in any way do justice to it.

---

Addition to my list of suggestions for project managers - keep two well-organized backup archives of all project files, and update them daily. Also encourage all project members to burn their files to CDs after submission, in case the project manager screws up and loses them.

I'm thinking this would be a good idea - ne, Pen-Pen?

Oh, I was thinking it would be a good idea to make copies using a very powerful magnet and then hit the HDD with a hammer a few times to knock loose all the stubborn data.

Anyways I have the memories DVD! (Shiny... First Anime DVD I've ever owned.) I should be uploading within a day or two.

um... perhaps I should also make a note of the fact that I'm also about as starved for DVD footage as people get

Heh, in other news, now that "Instrumental" made its' own category, and the project is nearly finished, I think this may well be a good time coming up for instrumental videos in general.
