They've got tons of free downloads for all Arjen's projects at their site.

Overlooked this thread. Just wanted to mention that the bands (and most of Lucassens other projects) are really good music.

Violins kick ass, however, I'm sick of the super-hype of Yellowcard using one. It's rediculious hardcore trash using a gimic that everyone thinks is the most original concept of this lifetime (in my opinion, of course). All I ever hear is OMG THAT GUY USES AN ELECTRIC VIOLIN, HOW ORIGINAL AND THUSLY, AMUSINGLY AWESOME. INSTANT SKYROCKET TO FAME BBQ!

I thought Yellowcard's violin kinda stuck out, really. Although I've only heard one of their songs, one time.

And real hardcore trash = Royal Trux. But they don't have a violin. :p

Still waiting for the emo band with bagpipes.

:? Electric Violin?
I like "old school" Violins, their sound is that much sweeter.
Plus I don't see anything special about Yellowcard.
They have one hit under their belts, that's about it.
Violins kick musical butt...forever.

Hmm, you know, and I never could tell a difference between an electric and an ordinary violin in terms of sound, other than volume, when the former is used for the pure clean sound.

On the other hand the electric violin is a beast with distortion on. Again, a shame I can't get any samples of KC's more unusual violin solos.

Yea, I'll agree with Nailz on that issue. I personally dislike virtually any kind of gimmicks that are used to adjust the band's popularity, or to make them look original when they aren't.

Especially when you have so many incredibly talented bands which use far, far more exotic sounds and instruments and slip below radar because they're too busy making great music to promote various gimmicks in their methods.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

well nailz, your the first i've heard to call yellow card hardcore, and one of many to call em trash.

anyways, i think i know a few other bands that use violins. i saw this great band, i think they were called the young dubliners (as in dublin, ireland), at the santa monica pier. they have great live shows and some great songs. and i think flogging molly uses violins too, right?

This will never happen, because they know that the almighty Dropkicks will stomp their asses flat. Emo Babies Fear Real Punk.

More kickass bands that use traditionally non-rock insruments:
Dropkick Murphys -- punk
In Extremo -- techno/metal
Skyclad -- folk-thrash
Cruachan -- Celt-folk/black metal

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

Didn't listen to them. (Yes, it's becaue all the sound clips were in .ram.)

Wait, went to Amazon US. Hmmm, yep punk. Can't say I'm too impressed.
Kai Stromler wrote: In Extremo -- techno/metal
Hmmm, ok. Had to go to Amazon US to get sound clips that weren't in Real Media. Sounds like a sort of more melodic, lighter Rammstein.
Kai Stromler wrote: Skyclad -- folk-thrash

Link doesn't work.
Kai Stromler wrote: Cruachan -- Celt-folk/black metal
Sounds like Lord of the Rings metal. Not bad.

Out of all of those, I'd have to go with Cruachan. Someof the samples I heard weren't super "smooth", but they were definately different and good.

That said, I like techno electric synth rock. But that doesn't mean I don't like other things.
In fact I was impressed by the Sonata Artica song "White Pearl, Black Oceans" in the sample thread that I ordered the Japanese import of the album it's from. So, hey.
