Regardless of the sub-genre within drama (romanctic intrigue, loss, conflict) I believe whether subtle or overt, an emotional equivalent of an ostinato would be in order for good drama (In other words it needs to evoke the desired response and prolong it, contrasting the mood/colors with whatever the pace of the vid is).

Can't cite any particular examples at the moment... I suck.

So, he is funny, and yet he is serious.....at the same time. This video is not going to be a HAHAHAHAHOMG MY STOMACH HURTS comedy...yet it will have some comedic scenes in it. I am trying to show him in a reflective state, you know...like a..."I have no regrets" kind of thing....not much of the bad things that happened to him will be in it, but a short 3 mins on how he is glad for all these things in his life that have happened, because these are the things that helped me along......so, i guess its a character profile, BUT, not many cons have that as a category...so this is my dilema.

Its not a funny vid, but its not the most dramatic vid....and i have no idea what fence to ride.
Maybe you are looking at a serious type AMV.
If you say that it is a little bite comical but not to much to enter as a comis AMV and it has a little of romance but not too much to enter a as dramatic AMV then you might be looking at a serious AMV.
Not 100% serious but it is serious in its way.

I think that a good Drama video is one with all the elements mentioned above, and good action/ editing sync.

For example, my video http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=38365

Its got some of the good elements, but it lacks some more action and editing sync that could make the video just that much more entertaining. Not that its a bad video, but because it doesn't have a lot of action in it, it doesn't appeal to a broader range of viewers, making the video just a bit less popular.

Man drama videos make up 99% of what I create @@ I love them to death, but at the same time I find it hard to explain what I feel makes a good drama.

If you like you can check out a video I made a long time ago. It's a drama video for Trigun revolving around twisting what "Eden" means and potraying Vash and Knives in the series.

Not sure if it's something you are looking for but lots of people seem to like it ^^; (it's still one of my all time faves)

Contrary to what some people may thing, Good Dramatic videos are probably the hardest to make...

Most people get confused in what is a good Dramatic video from where the Dramatic elements are actually coming from. Generally it's easy to take something like "Grave of the Fireflies" and make a more dramatic video since the Dramatic feel is coming from the clips more than the actual video concept/editing. Don't get me wrong, some of those can be real good videos as well, but it's just easier to call those really good dramatic video for the wrong reasons.

To create something Dramatic that stands on it's own and compliments the clips is not easy. In this case concept, flow, editing, song & Clip selection is very critical and must have the right balance of ingredients to work... In Action and Comedy, there is a lot more leeway for imbalance. It not that these videos are a lot easier then a Dramatic video, but to stir emotions not directly associated with just the clips is not easy by far...

For me, A dramatic video is my way of conveying my feelings/emotions and how I look at something in particular anime(s) and it’s tough sometimes to visually show that so others experience the same emotions that the creator feels….
