Also, it looks like you're using DivX/XviD source clips. If so, I suggest you stop doing it and get the DVDs if possible.

Ya know, that woulda ctualy be a prety cool effect if you could just add it as a filter then configure and keyframe it.^May^ wrote:

Huh? Those words confused me right there.
I can claim the title as being the first person on a-m-v.org to submit an AMV with the artist KJ-52 on it. Yay. Hahaha.

if you have xp service pack 2, wmm 2.1 allows you to disable video filters, such as those used by divx/xvid. that might solve the problem.
if you're source looks like that, there's not much you can do.

Maybe that would help.
I was originally going to just post my good ol' "totally clueless" picture, but that wouldn't be very helpful.
So let me say instead:
.AVI is a container that can contain video streams encoded with a wide variety of different codecs, and that includes DivX.
Just because a video uses the DivX codec doesn't mean that its file extension is .DIVX, and in fact, the vast majority of them aren't.
The upshot of all this is that it's very highly likely that ^May^ IS using .AVI files already. And that's not the problem -- the problem is the codec used on the video stream.

YES
He said that he origibnally had use DIVX to edit the video.
I suggest to use .avi not Divx to edit the video.
Divx is a very compress file so that the video has less weight.
When you import it to an editig program it uncompresses when you try to export it as an avi file. You have to export it with the same extension the video originally has.

exodo, you need to indicate a compression/lack thereof when referring to .avi. saying "avi" does not give any information about how the video stream is encoded, as it can take many types of encoded video streams, including uncompressed or divx.
if you don't have the dvds, and the artifacting appears because of wmm trying to process the interframe compression and not because it's in the source, then yes converting divx encoded to uncompressed .avi or .avi with any codec that doesn't use interframe compression should stop the artfacts.
on the other hand, if you get the (import, i'd assume) dvds, you can compress straight to a noninterframe compression and avoid the loss of information from the divx compression.

And what I just said was that his DivX files almost certainly WERE AVI files already. DivX is one of the most common codecs used in AVI files. You seem to be implying that an AVI file can't have DivX video. Was I unclear?EXODO wrote:YES

And that's also the reason it sucks as source footage. (The temporal compression, at least. Editing programs tend to like things like HuffYUV and MJPEG a lot better.)EXODO wrote:Divx is a very compress file so that the video has less weight.
... what?EXODO wrote:When you import it to an editig program it uncompresses when you try to export it as an avi file.
If by that you mean "the incoming video has to be decoded for the editing program to work with it", then yes.
If you mean "exporting as AVI = exporting uncompressed RGB", then very NO.
As I tried to say in my last post, and DWP just said again, the AVI container can use a wide variety of different codecs for the video stream. Uncompressed RGB is only one of many options.
Try telling that to all the people who edit MPEG-2 (or even MPEG-1) footage and then export it from whatever program they use as HuffYUV AVI.EXODO wrote:You have to export it with the same extension the video originally has.
(Or DV AVI, or WMV.)
