VirtualDub - which filter?

Post by post-it » Sun Oct 24, 2004 12:36 pm

. Howdy

. I've run into one heck of problem here:
Image
. As you can see, the Video is starting its 2nd pass - but there's a problem!
The Yellow Hexigons have steps - instead of curved lines.

. Any idea's?
I've removed each filter, one by one, and even removed them all - no change

This looks like the classic "Deinterlace when speed is below 100%" effect, though I'm sure other interlacing-related processes can also cause it.

This wasn't on the full-res export?

Captured 720 X 480, deinterlaced ( internal ) then filtered again with Smart De-interlace
and finally resized to 704 X 528.. This isn't the first time I've
seen this problem, and it rarely happens to me, but at least "this time" I caught it.

now, how the heck to eliminate it? .... VirtualDub 1.4.10 ( I caught it as it was
being Encoded ( I got the same thing from VD-MOD so now I'm really confused. )

Thats deinterlacing. As you state you have run 2 deinterlacers, I would imagine thats where the problem came in at.

. Believe it, nor not, this is the same picture with nothing but resizing!
Image
. I'm beginning to think its the ATI MPEG-1 Codec itself - locking-in this break!
De-interlacing with either filter, let alone both, seem to have "no affect"

. Is there a filter which could -sorta- bend these lines to curve a little ?

What kind of resizing are you doing?
If you are using a nearest neighbor resize, or resizing within premiere, you will get shit like that.
Use a bicubic or lanczos resize for the image to look good.

. simple Bi-cubic.
I've tryed every resize, except "nearest neighbor - of course" and even
Smart Resize yealds the same resolts.

and, no, I'm not inventing this problem - this is an actual, real-time, problem!

. Smoothers only washout the Video and Warp2sharp just cuts the lines.

Post an image of your raw footage.
Then describe exactly what you are doing that makes it look like that.

I'll drop the hosting from streamload once you-all have a copy.
