Excluding multiple-anime videos in search

Post by Flint the Dwarf » Thu Oct 14, 2004 2:20 am

I was wondering today, about excluding anime from searches. So I did a super search of Local videos, and put this down for anime...

-"Yu Yu Hakusho" -"Inu Yasha (TV)" -"DragonBall Z" -"Akira" -"Cowboy Bebop" -"Neon Genesis Evangelion" -"Escaflowne" -"Naruto" -"Trigun" -"Rurouni Kenshin (TV)" -"Final Fantasy 8 (VIII)" -"Sailor Moon" -"Final Fantasy 10 (X)"

Those are the top 10 most-used anime excluded from the search (not in order, mind you, because I started before I looked at the list), but any of those anime can still appear in the search as long as the video has at least one other anime present (as long as that other anime was not excluded in my search). So it really only cut down the Local video count from 19513 to 12010, and that didn't seem right. I did try excluding all of the most-used anime, but the search broke. -_-

I'm not sure what purpose it would serve, but is there currently any way to either exclude multi-anime videos from the search or to exclude all videos with a certain anime from the search?

I'm doing some more searches now, and it looks like some/many multi-anime videos are being excluded when one of that anime listed is excluded in the query, but not all videos with the anime. It now seems that some anime, when excluded, are grouped with other related anime (i.e. taking out "Neon Genesis Evangelion" also excludes the movies, which only have another title appended to the root) and the video is only excluded from the search if all the anime listed for the video have the root term (in this case, "Neon Genesis Evangelion") in its title. So if a video has Evangelion and Dragonball Z, but you only exclude Evangelion from the search, that video will still show up.

So, is there any way to exclude all videos that contain a certain anime?

And, yes, I usually do have this much free time.
