This isnt actually true... Windows XP 9And 200 I think) come with a utility called convert. It will convert a FAT32 partition to NTFS with no data loss including the "c:" drive. I have used this and works great. More details found here ->http://www.ntfs.com/quest3.htm or just type convert /? in a cmd window
