A thought on dubs
Having watched all of Witch Hunter Robin subbed, I was sort of amused when they brought the dub here on YTV (canadian channel). I noticed two things:
1. I hate the dub cuz I watched it subbed and now all the voices sound hideously wrong to me. I generally don't care, but this is a fairly obvious difference to me.
2. Has anyone else noticed that when they dub anime, characters (mostly male) who have deep voices get dubbed as having higher pitched but colder sounding voices? Some examples I can think of would be Sesshomaru/Naraku in Inuyasha and Amon in Witch Hunter Robin. It's not bad exactly, but they lose the effect that really deep voices have. Sorta diappointing. Maybe it's just me.

Give the dubbers a break. They have a herder job then you think. All subbers have to do is type what they say. Dubbers have to match the mouths and get the general meaning of what they said at the same time. Subs may be better, but the dubbers do a damn good job considering whatthey have to do.
The most expedient way to avert crisis is always by the indiscriminate extinction of anything that stands in your way.

Mostly, generally and personally hate dubbings of anything.
That said there are a handful in some cases that "suck" but are funny in an "I'm laughing at you not with you" kind of way.
Yeah the male voice concept may be true in some cases.

The thing about the Witch Hunter Robin dub is that EVERYONE is well casted (heck, who else can play a dark, mysterious Amon - Crispan Freeman of course!
). The script on the other hand was pretty bad because it required the VAs to insert pauses in their dialouge which sounded really awkward and unnatural. There are certain times where that part doesn't usually bother me, but the nonetheless it's not one of Bang Zoom Entertaiment's best works.

English and Japanese do sound pretty different.
