Indeed Otohiko. Both comments in the post above are true.

But it's not astonishing considering how many people actually care about languages in general and their integrity...

Well, it's weird looking at it from my linguistics-oriented perspective.

Prescriptive grammar is a weird thing, and it tends to have its' problems too. When people say something 'wrong' (as in, off the prescribed norm), there's usually a very good, logical reason for it - but of course, it's not a good thing to 'screw the right way' entirely, and languages need standards to exist properly.

I guess I'll say it annoys me when people adjust grammar/spelling/pronounciation too much, but I try not to be too anal about it - especially if a lot of people seem to say things the same exact way. As with everything though, acceptablity of deviation from prescriptive grammar is a case by case thing, I guess. Language stuff needs change too.

Anyway, I'll take 'animes', but I'll prefer 'anime' to it any day.

/end linguistic rant. God I'm hopeless

Well, I'm always put off when people speak or write bad English or bad Spanish or bad language. Bad language is not an academic phrase but it still exists.
Some people just talk/write a language badly, butchering it beyond belief.
Some rules are a little strict depending on the language but we need rules.
If not every person would have his or her own language, a veritable and nightmarish Babel Tower.
I'm stopping this now (my rightful “rant”); people will still be stupid for years to come.

I'd better do that too >_>

Honestly though, I'm more annoyed by the way people pronounce the word 'anime' itself (I'm used to the Japanese pronounciation of it), not so much how they pluralize it, etc. I mean, I think that's a far bigger alteration to the word itself (seeing how it phonetically changes the word root; whereas the plural is just a question of whether to add a suffix).

You'd hate me then. Trust me, as bad has my grammer gets in these forums, its nothing compared to how I miss pronounce things. I mean for the longest time it was(occasionally still is) hoke age, instead of ho ka ge, and you don't even want to know how I said(say) Evangelion.

I'm not a hater, nah :)

I may be mildly annoyed, but I see where you're coming from. The very same place 'animes' comes from - trying to adapt a foreign word into the English system. And, again, that's natural. Not technically correct to original, but natural.

Well ,don't hate but I don't have a lot of patience either on this linguistic subject.

An intelligent one.

What else do you get when you have Otohiko and Kajino Rei in the same thread?
