Free publicity - showing amvs at street fair

Post by downwithpants » Wed Aug 18, 2004 11:59 pm

Hi folks,
I will be showing videos at a booth at Cornell's Welcome Weekend Street Fair on Sunday Aug. 29 in promotion of a music video editing club I'm starting. The fair lasts three hours, and I can only fill maybe 1 to 1 1/2 hours with videos of mine and friends, so I have at least 1 1/2 hours to show videos from anyone interested before I start looping. I will show the videos on a laptop or laptops we're borrowing from the university, powered on what batteries they have.

Notes on the video submissions:
-I will probably be showing mpeg-1s burned on to CD. If your video is not mpeg-1, I will convert it using TMPGenc. I'd much prefer if you did the format conversion yourself for quality issues and because I'm lazy.
-Please, no subtitles or divx logos. I don't want to confuse the audience.
-Please, no sexual nudity/exposed innards. I don't want to scare away the audience.
-I can't guarantee that your video will be shown even if they satisfy these requirements, depending on timing and how long the laptops will last on batteries :/
-Audio will be 2 speakers maybe worth 5-10 dollars powered by the laptop and Video will be whatever the laptop (don't even know specs) can put out, so it's not gonna be the quality you would see at a convention.

If you would like your video to be shown, leave a link, pm me, or aim me. (I will probably need to take it via aim file transfer if you cant put it on a server).

While Welcome Weekend is aimed at freshmen and transfers, Cornell has something around 14,000 undergrad and the event will get publicity so videos should get a good audience.

If you attend Cornell, or live nearby (god forbid), please stop by. We (Cornell Anime Music Video Society) will be somewhere on Ho Plaza (Barton Hall if rain) 5-8pm Aug. 29.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cu_streetfair/links is the site of the entire event (Welcome Weekend).

Also, if anyone has advice for me, please give.

Nevermind, there's the link. Just download and convert yourself... I'm too lazy to get the mpeg1 from Quu. And the quality's crap anyway, I'm sure it couldn't get worse. ;)

This is the best I've got in the mpeg-1 department: What is it Good For?

Already MPEG-1 and ready for your showing. :D

Have fun.

Oh and BTW is there gonna be any sort of response thing you can tell us about? Like what the audiences thoughts on our vids? Or is that not going to happen? :/

Um, I can make a comment sheet and tracklist I guess. I'll try to remember which videos got big reactions as well.

Either of the two in my sig (although with the Seta trailer, since there are two versions of it, I think it'd be best to get the Action Version)

These would also probably be good:
Solace In Destruction
Naota's New Disease
How Not To Be Seen
The Nights Will See Them Through

These two are already VCD-compliant MPEG-1s:
Kamui...Don't You Think? - There is blood content in this video, seeing as how it's X/1999; I dunno if that's what you mean by innards, though, and whether this would count or not. I don't even know if most people consider the scenes I did use to be 'excessive' (obviously not Org-excessive, though)
'Nerv' Trouble

Just pick whichever ones you think would work.

I'd like to submit PRPN, if you don't mind.

I made an mpeg of it, I'll send it to you over AIM. I can be reached as RubikSnieff.

The one in my sig is my latest and probably most party-friendly.
