ive had serious issues with the reliability of lame recently, so i switched back to the radium mp3 codec... why does the lame codec lack when it comes to being stable, or installing correctly, or general willingness to work(tried lame acm(several versions) razor lame) both have failed to work correctly, i install radium, works perfectly right after installation...

I think lame is alright, though I don't use the ACM codec.

I use ABR for my amv's (which I suppose most people would say is a no-no), so I rip the track in CDex (you can update the lame version it uses by overwriting the lame_enc.dll in the plugins directory) and out put an mp3 file.

I then use Virtual dub mod to mux the audio and video together using direct stream copy for both audio and video (obviously I've encoded the video before hand, but I suppose you could encode the video at this point and direct stream copy the audio at the same time).

Got the radium codec as well, nice little hack. I use it for quick and dirty rips where I am using a high bitrate, or can't be bothered to mess around. Also radium is codec of choice for live dumps/captures, but on occasion I will out put WAV and recompress it later to preserve quality (having the WAV would allow me to mess around as above should I be motivated enough)

When I fully install LAME, it makes Premiere Pro non-functional on my system. Not sure why, but the Radium quasi-works (I can't access it from Premiere, and if I use one of Premiere Pro's built in .mp3 settings (which top out at 56 kbps, say, for a tiny quick beta), I can't use the Radium ones in any other program until a restart or sometimes, a re-install. Grr. However, I can make .mp3s with LAME's software encoder, I just have trouble muxing them back to my video sometimes (see my first video, if you want. The audio has to be 'jumpstarted' sometimes, for some weird reason...)

I recommend you output a WAV then in virtual dub, compress it with Lame or Radium, alternatively you could strip the wav out of the video in virtual dub and encode it in something like CDex or besweet.

The reason you don't see Lame? Might not have installed correctly.

Download the ACM driver for Lame and extract it to an empty folder (on your desktop for ease) then open the folder and find the .INF file, right click it and choose install.

I tryed LAME when it was first released and everything seemed distorted.

Radium us not actually MP3 Audio but it does encode FAST ^^

LAME now has a GUI Interface; but ... what ever happened to MP4 Audio Codec's ?
