I don't run XP but you might try uninstalling the update to see if that repairs the problem. Most "Hot Fixes" you are able to uninstall unless it's part of a Service Pak. I however do not recomend using the Recovery Console to do this. You will just end up making duplicates of .dll files and can cause more problems in the long run.
Hope this helps in some way.

Try cycling power on the wireless router or access point...or both...maybe the modem, too. "Cycling" means pull the power plug, wait a couple of seconds, then plug it back in. If someone else is on the network downloading something big, you might want to let them know ahead of time.
I have to do this with my wireless router about three or four times a week just to get on the Internet with my -11b laptop. Something screwy with...something.
Two other people that I know tell me they have to reset the power on their wireless routers from time to time. So, I know it's not just me.

well i spoke to my networker friend about it and heres what he said:
lee death: if you havn't solved that guys probleem then tell him to do what i said make sure his wireless nic card on his laptob SSID is set to same as his wireless router if he has linksys then it will be easy all hell have to do is console in to his router via browser although thats truly not consoling in.... any way he should go under wireless setting and there should be a field wit SSID the is what wirless router looks for instead of wastin time broadcasting for other wirless device looking for service
*** Auto-response sent to lee death: I am currently away from the computer.
lee death: well if he doesnt have linksys tell me wtf he has grrrr
