CRC errors on local downloads

Post by JCD » Tue Aug 10, 2004 1:10 pm

Well, I've always had this problem with this computer...

The most videos I download from the local server have some broken frames in the video, sometimes even that bad that the player crashes.

I assume it's due to CRC errors while downloading. this problem encounters with every downloadmanager as well so it must be my computer messing something up. This doesn't happen with any other download.

Has anyone got a clue what could cause this?

(btw I didn't know where to put that else :? )

A couple of things to try.

First, does it happen with every video? For example, what about Phade's Material Girl? It could be that someone uploaded a corrupted video. If it's just one video, we (the admins) can remove that video, and try and get them to upload a good copy.

Second, if it happens with every video, what does memtest86 say about your computer? If memtest86 starts spewing messages about bad memory, that would be the problem.

Last, does it happen if you use the experimental download method, which you can turn on from the account test bits page? (it's linked in another thread.)

As said, this happens with almost every video I download from the donut and I'm not using the experimental thingy, so I guess bad memory may be the problem. I'll try memtest86 tomorrow.

Thanks for the help :)
