Now I'm sorry if I hurt people feeling over here, jesus, some are too freaking serious sometimes. Most dubs butcher the original, yeah I said most and it's not only the language but the anime itself. You don't get what the artist was trying to create originally because as we all know the US is more "conservative" one could say than other countries. So not all is allowed.
Take CCS, by the time it got here it was a cartoon, in the original Tomoyo is in love with Sakura. Guess I'm a purist, I want to see what I was meant to not some diluted version of it. That said I do like some English dubs, not because they're good but because they're funny. Like Usagi's valley girl speak or Kero's surfer dude "accent".
For the record I have the "dubs suck" belief for everything not just anime so all movies and films apply.
Not to be egocentric but I think that was somewhat directed to me.Sometimes the English dub can even surpass that of the original Japanese version. Case in point, Yu Yu Hakusho, which in my opinion is one of the best dubbing jobs ever done on a series. Onegai Teacher is another example of a REALLY superb dub. Battle Athletes, Cowboy Bebop, Angelic Layer (not including the guy who does Eechan's voice), Neon Genesis Evangelion, etc, etc. And then of course you have exceeding BAD dubs like Hellsing, Kiddy Grade, Cardcaptor Sakura (minus the second movie).
To try and generalize it all and say that ALL are better than the others is just a failing stab at trying to "fuck the norm" and "be different". Free cl00, liking something Japanese doesn't make you "different", "unique", "interesting", "cultured" or any other ego stroking adjective. It just means you're an philistine for having no discriminating taste.

I wasn't referring to any specific person, just those who matched the criteria I gave, if you think you do, well, that's on you.Kajino Rei wrote: Not to be egocentric but I think that was somewhat directed to me.![]()
You're confusing "crap shown on Cartoon Network" with "dubbed anime", they are in fact two entirely different beasts. "Crap shown on Cartoon Network" is "dubbed anime" which has then also been edited for content. Usually mild stuff like language, blood and sexual content (like Yu Yu Hakusho, Tenchi, DBZ, etc). Now I'm sorry if I hurt people feeling over here, jesus, some are too freaking serious sometimes. The unedited Tenchi dubs for example are absolutely NOTHING like the "crap shown on Cartoon Network".
And trying to use CCS is a pretty lame pull seeing as how it's pretty much the quintessential "how NOT to do a dub". I can't even think of ANY anime series that was butchered up in that way, but then I believe it's the ONLY anime series that Nelvana ever licensed.
