memories. english audio ?

Post by bum » Sun Aug 08, 2004 2:39 am

ok i bought the memories dvd today a few hours ago. few minutes ago, looked at the back of the dvd. NO ENGLISH DUB. what the fuck ?!?!? i mean, this isnt just seriosly strange but, well im prety pissed, seeing as i prefer english dub to sub. but seriosly, this is stupid. why the fuck their is german, spanish and italian audio dub, when their is no english dub ? wouldnt it makes sence to make a dub for the most spoken language on earth ? and thiers a little bar on the side saying "this disk is encoded for use on region 4 players" . region 4 is australia and new zeland. and errr, english is the comonly spoken language here. so where the hell is the english dub ? i mean, seriosly im pissed of bad now.

It was a "joke" since I'd already sort of answered bum on another thread.

The version of Memories that I have (and we shall not be saying WHERE I got it from) is Japanese only, not sure if there's an English dub or not...although you would think that there would be...

Furthermore, anyone who thinks that all dubs are bad is just plainly stupid. Sometimes the English dub can even surpass that of the original Japanese version. Case in point, Yu Yu Hakusho, which in my opinion is one of the best dubbing jobs ever done on a series. Onegai Teacher is another example of a REALLY superb dub. Battle Athletes, Cowboy Bebop, Angelic Layer (not including the guy who does Eechan's voice), Neon Genesis Evangelion, etc, etc. And then of course you have exceeding BAD dubs like Hellsing, Kiddy Grade, Cardcaptor Sakura (minus the second movie).

To try and generalize it all and say that ALL are better than the others is just a failing stab at trying to "fuck the norm" and "be different". Free cl00, liking something Japanese doesn't make you "different", "unique", "interesting", "cultured" or any other ego stroking adjective. It just means you're an philistine for having no discriminating taste.

I think the main reason because so many people prefer the japanese with subs is that they want to hear the original synchro. That is also the reason because I always watch japanese with sub, just to hear the original version.

Well, I always like to watch both versions too, although I don't necessarily agree on the synchronization aspect since some series, depending on who bought the rights, are reedited to match the English dialog better. An exception of course would be Spirited Away because Disney signed a contract saying they wouldn't edit, cut or alter anything. And sometimes the Japanese synch isn't even as good as the English dub, again, it all depends on the series. And even then it depends on which PARTS.

I don't know if you take the time to notice, but in most anime series there are certain parts where it's obvious that they splurged on the animation and so forth and in others where it's done really cheaply. For example in Onegai Teacher, episode 8, about 4:15 in where the three girls are eating ice cream, do take note of how enormous Kaede's arm looks. Obviously they goofed a bit and didn't take the bother to go back in and fix it. Other parts where characters are walking around their legs seem to change shape.

It seems to me that the thing of it is, is that some people get this idea that the original version is somehow "perfect" and therefore "better" than the dub, and that simply isn't always true. It may SEEM perfect because you aren't that familiar with the language, but in most cases it's far from it.

Meh, I don't like original audio to be elitist.

I like it because it um... sounds better to me, that's about it really
