Which anime do you think I could use for this song?

Fred sits alone at his desk in the dark

In a more non-literal way, that could be applied to Mikage Souji from Revolutionary Girl Utena. It's hard to explain why without having spoilers, but if you've seen the entire Black Rose Saga, you can understand why. Actually, I'd say that could have potential to make a really good character profile for him.

Uhhm. Office worker animes don't come over to the US. Black Heaven might work...but the song'd have to be short. Since there's not many office scenes in Black Heaven, really.

That Utena idea would be good, too.

Right off hand, I can't think of a literal interpretation of those lyrics in an anime. Of course, my new personal theory is that any song can be put to Lain or another yoshitoshi ABe -influenced show. So, try Lain. Or NieA_7.
