What's left to accomplish?

Post by Pyle » Sat Jul 31, 2004 3:00 pm

If we can acheive the level of the effects seen in Euphoria and VirtuaAnima, as well as the amount of story in Center of the Sun, what else is left to accomplish?

How do you top something like that? I have ideas, but they are pretty damnd far from my current software and skill level.

In summary, the post says 'What sort of innovation is left for us'.

You say "who gives a shit what my skill level and software set is, I'm going to do what I want to do".

That was easy. Next question?

I do it to entertain, I'm no better than anyone else. But people like my videos, they enjoy them.

I do it because yesturday someone told me my profesisonal video was the best video they'd ever seen.

I do it because Friends are here.

But most of all

I do it because even though i may not be the best, I want to make people happy.

You mean that Metropolis vid? As nice as it was, it didn't have that much story, or at least with the lyrics of the song.

do it because every video (thats not dbz) is unique.

And no matter what someone else has done, yours will bring something new to the table.

 Watch it again. Concentrate on the 'Young boy in the market, see's the girl alone' part.

In any case, after seeing the sorts of effects and storyline that others have been able to produce, I'm having serious doubts about my own abilities to produce things that people can like.

I, as an individual, set very high standards for myself. Generally, if you guys are pleased with what you make, that's fine by me. However, I'm not going to be happy with my work unless I know someone else liked it too. And I don't want them liking a movie with just a couple of synced lyrics, I want them watching something with effort and work put into it. Ala, U4EEA. :)

Yeah but you do know the Young Girl in the song is a prostitute.....

But anywho, dispite any serious doubts about your own abilities, you can still make something with little meaning to you, however other people who watch it seem to see something that the creater doesn't (I know I don't a lot of the time). Turning out that sometimes your work is better than you think.

Okay maybe that's a bit drastic, It's "Implied" that she is.

If you are making videos for other people, you aren't ever going to be happy. Make them because you like them, then if others say they enjoy them, then you know that those people understand you. Other people who say they suck aren't ever going to understand you, no matter what you try. If you're a weirdo like me, for example....you're only gonna find a few fans....:)

"Strongly implied" is what I would say. I think there is a story (other than that of the anime) if you want to follow it, if you don't then it's just some nice lyric synch. It's good either way, it just depends on the viewer. (A common quandry in art, especially interactive art is how much is authorial intention really counts for.)

As for the original question, How can your software setup limit your story telling? You could always use some free program (such as GIMP to do pretty much anything photoshop can do in terms of image compositing (is that the right term?)

As far as effects go, it's not what you can or can not do, it's what you are willing to take the time and the effort to learn.

Art is never unsurmountable or played out, it is constantly evolving. Just look at the first music videos compared to what people make now.

And if you think effects have reached their peak, take a look at the Texnolyze intro.
