if you can't send a huffman, then the highest-quality render you have in whatever format you have should do, so long as i don't have any problems converting it with mencoder. high-bitrate mpeg4 derivitives like divx and xvid will work, it'll just be a matter of having to recompress compressed footage.
downwithpants: i actually haven't checked my mail for several days - so no, i'm afraid i haven't gotten your messages. i can do the cd-in-the-mail thing, i just suggested the upload system figuring it'd be easier for most people.
everything is in order with the ftp so far as i can tell, but i've been intermittently using the entirety of my computer's bandwidth transferring files off of my laptop so i can re-image as a simple workstation now that i no longer am using it as a server. if you couldn't connect, it's probably becase either my computer or my router were refusing to let any more bits through ports 20 and 21 than were flying about already.
otohiko: i think the renders i have of your files should do fine, where they were straight from dvd source and very well handled through editing and encoding. they might not look as sharp on the final release as they do through just one encoding, but i'd imagine they'd still be plenty attractive, especially given the overwhelming effect of the music and synchronization involved. my video came from digisub footage, and i lost the first lossless png encoding i had, so it's really going in to a third compression for the film - yet it's still pretty clean through most of it (not that all of the repainting work i did had anything to do with it...). as much as i'm amazed by how helen's "forbidden memories" came out with the same amazing crispness i remember from the fruits basket dvds, nearly all of the videos in this project are well above the average capture quality seen amongst amvs. really, the one i'm most anxious to see as a huffman is "tomoe in the moonlight", as it's a shame to see such a great video crudded up by the windows media format i have it in now.
anyone get the feeling that .wmv doesn't scale into the upper bitrates quite so well as it should, given the resources of the company that developed it?
---
once again, anyone have any thoughts on the "set" and what, if anything, i should do to make either the widescreen of fullscreen version more attractive?

Well, I actually was hitting myself on the head the other day (as some posters from Demonseal may know) for accidentally deleting all the Ararat-related project files from my hard drive while looking for some extra space for AMV's
I've since tried out compressing that video again and, from the looks of it - it does scale down fine. One thing though - I assume you're resizing them for the final project render? When I was doing that, I noticed that (probably something that migrated over from the DVD) the de-interlacing wasn't perfect, and depending on the resizing algorhythms used, it could end up looking really bad when scaled down. Just, you know, watch that when you're making the final project file. I really need to learn some more about de-interlacing outside the basic IVTC...

Rose4Emily:
I'll have my huffman and other stuff by the end of the week as I'm entering AWA pro so I have a July 30th deadline.
Bakadeshi:
You want text effects? Check my FTP for a preview. It will give you the general idea but the final will be even cooler.
I hate filtering and compressing with an undying passion. But somehow, it will be done.

Why do I find it so sad that I tend to feel that way about pretty much the whole technical side of the editing processpen-pen2002 wrote: I hate filtering and compressing with an undying passion. But somehow, it will be done.

Hehe, anyway, I wish I could get that final version... but, no bandwith. But, I might be getting my job (back) within the next couple of weeks, which might mean the return of bandwith, and maybe I could get involved in the next project (maybe even try managing it, though I'm still not sure if I have the proper organization skills to pull it off myself)

i've finished moving all my files off of my laptop, and the ftp should be available and responsive again.
hadn't realized how much junk had accumulated on that machine, no wonder it was getting sluggish - all but ~500 mb of a 40 gb drive was filled. fragmentation nightmare - not to mention enough to keep my two computers busy through most of the afternoon and night between transferring and checking all of the files.
i'll be configuring my mail clients now, so i can take a look at my e-mail for the first time in a while.
pen-pen: the password you specified for your account on my server was too short for my system to accept it. i suppose you'll have to send another one in the 8-12 character range. sorry i didn't think of that earlier.

2. i haven't seen finished videos from rose4emily, maverick or anubis. also it depends how fast people get updated monologues with pictures in, and how long it takes rose4emily to put everything together.
i hope to meet those of you going to otakon there. i'll be looking for songbird at the overflow screenings on friday at 4, and i'll be attending the big amv contest friday at 9 and the amv panel saturday at 10am. good luck to bakadeshi in the contest!

I can connect with no problem and I'm uploading a complete version of my video to the FTP as I type. I'm still calling it a beta because I want to get some last minute comments for improvement. So check the FTP in the next few hours or tommorow and give it a dwnld. Now for the final I will have to experiment with converting my video from 23.976 fps to 24 fps. Other than that I'll get the pictures and monologue in very soon.
Just for the fun of it here is my avisynth script. If you think anything should be changed and what should be added to convert to 24 fps go ahead and tell me too ^_^!
LoadPlugin("F:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\MPEG2Dec3.dll")
LoadPlugin("F:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\Decomb.dll")
MPEG2Source("H:\\END_OF_EVA\VIDEO_TS\endofeva.d2v",cpu=6,iDCT=5,iPP=true)
