Well, you do know for a fact that I'm working on my OPUS Beowulf. Actually, I just finished it not to long ago. About ***censored from the eyse of Master Judges*** is how long my AWA Masters video came out to. OPUS is this year's theme for HypeO and MindWarp.

And its no fancy After Effects like my Naruto USA or RETRO project are. This is going back to the editing style I was doing before AE. Lip Sync, story telling, and filled with action and comedy.

But also to answer your question. Well, maybe its jsut me. Alot of these new editors REALLY DON'T have any catchy names...via user name nor Production Studio.

Aside from the editing, an editor must also be able to sell himself to an audience. Whether its AMV Creators or just a regualr AMV crowd.

After my first AWA..back in 2002, I had already met every one of the editors who had inspired me (finally) and I also met the editors who started are the same time I did....

The only editor I have yet to meet in person is Zarxrax, him and I started around the same time back in 2000-2001. I still remember when he showed me one of his earliest videos, which was classical music with Dragon Half.
Zarxrax wrote:I've seen a TON of great vids this year...
Toushi, Extraordinary World, EvaBebop, Olin, Naruto's USA, a TON of stuff from Steakslim (who is *the* action video editor, IMO). I could keep going but I think this is a sufficient list.
I've seen a few videos myself but honestly, nothing has REALLY stood out to me as impressive as the Perfect Blue video I saw back at AWA Pro last year. I think it won Best Technical and Best of Show. Now there is a creator I'd love to sit and talk with.

PS, don't forget Julian that little by little, I'm starting to do less AMVs also because there hasn't been alot of time for me. I'm making short films, working at a TV Station (currently here in El Paso at Univision26) and will also be shooting a movie in about a week.

Some of us have become very busy with are lives....Hell, I've been editing since I was 17....now I'm 21...time to take the things I learned making AMVs with and turn them into possible professions.

It's a tough world out there.

I assume you meant this one?
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Best COPIED effects of the year more like. Most of his ideas came from 2002-3 esque anime intros like Canvas. I'd also say it's just about the WORST use of effects I've EVER seen in an AMV. Effects are great...when they have a purpose. About the only REALLY interesting thing about his AMV is the head motion lip synching he did, that was pretty cool.

We still got room for one more in our AWA room Zarxrax ;)

So that's why the crowd didn't get into my video at Otakon 2003, because I used my real name and it was too freakin' long...

Was my Imagine: The Sequel one of those? ;p

Anyway, before my comp went crap I saw quite a few videos I liked. Way more than 5. Maybe you just aren't looking hard enough, or you're being to hard when you're looking...... :-*

hard = harsh

Beowulf wrote:I know every year someone claims that AMVs are getting worse and worse and that the current year is in a slump. These claims usually happen around the summer time because all the majors are making their AWA videos.
Ironically (and humorously) I recall you posting something similar and claiming this last year in another thread (or maybe a journal post)

In all seriousness though, I think Otohiko and Castory already said the most valid point. It's all subjective. I'm sure that seems like the "hippy" answer, but it's 100% true. I imagine there are some who think this is the best year for AMVs...ever.

Also, as long as you're having fun, who cares what anyone else is making? Sure I like seeing a good video every once in awhile, but who am I to "demand" such things of creators. I mean I make a lot of crap and have fun doing it, so everyone else should be entitled to it too

Dern, I made the same mistake both last year and this year's Otakon. Woe is me ;). I now totally have my excuse ready for when I lose. Thanks ;)
