i've seen plenty of good videos this year. i wonder if the perception of a slump has to do with the slower circulation of videos in the top 10% and top star scale lists.

but if we're in a slump, maybe we should just make more good videos then

Who are they?

The last video that generated a legitimate "buzz" was Bleed The Sky. Tsukin is the newest real editor that I know of.

I dunno, to some people, this is possibly the greatest year for them, and to others, it's a slump.

Personally, I have no idea what it is since I haven't downloaded alot of videos this year. It's already reached the point where a divx newbie can pump out AE stuff the next day. So with everyone pretty much being at equal skill, people seem to be pumping out things at decent quality nowadays. Now something that's horrible today could have been considered good a few years back (All effects, no concept :P)

It's up to you decide if it's a slump or not.

I've seen a TON of great vids this year...
Toushi, Extraordinary World, EvaBebop, Olin, Naruto's USA, a TON of stuff from Steakslim (who is *the* action video editor, IMO). I could keep going but I think this is a sufficient list.

Indeed, subjectivity is key.

For me, it's probably the best year - well, it is the 2nd year that I've been actively involved with the community, I've missed out on all but several of the 'essential' old-school videos (since my involvement with AMV's prior to joining was very limited).

I've seen a lot of interesting stuff come out this year, and I can appreciate it all the better since it's this year that I really got off the ground with my own editing.

So, for me, it is the greatest year ever. Well, will be when it's over, most likely.

This hasn't been a good vid watching year for me thus far, but that's just because there really hasn't been much in the dark/action/drama/angst/depression vids department, which happens to be what I look for with vids (along with good metal/hard rock and otherwise).

So yeah, it's been pretty dry for me, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that the entirety of AMVs is heading down the shithole

I don't see a lack of quality videos, instead what I see is that a small minority of creators are well known enough that people seek them out. Everyone else gets hidden amoung the vast sea of garbage being produced. Even if you take the overly harsh view that only 1% of videos made are worth watching that would still leave one good video every other day at the rate things are currently uploaded. The problem isn't that there aren't good videos, the problem is that with the recent changes in the top star and top 10% lists it's very hard to find new good videos. Hell, most decent videos won't even get the 8 ops required to be listed unless the creator pimps the hell out of them. Start looking in the op exchange and download videos offered that sound interesting. You won't have to give ops but you'll probably find quite a few decent vids that way.

Incidently, I don't know what you're watching by my question would be 'Where AREN'T the action videos'. Every other thing I see seems to be some punch to the beat fest.

Well, there are many, to quickly state some:
Tyler - Be sure to watch "Kill Spike" ;)
requiett - Some pretty trippy stuff
xRinoa - Rookie of the year :)
Bakadeshi - Another great rookie
Janzki - King of romance ;)

The last video that generated a legitimate "buzz" was Bleed The Sky. Tsukin is the newest real editor that I know of.
Maybe the newest great editor with publicity ;) There are lots of people who do their job as good, they just don't get as much responce and thus are being overlooked by the mass.
Btw, I think Tsukin has improved this year, at least I totally enjoyed his tracks in Reflections of Style and his Metropolis video :)
