So you're saying blending and arranging footage doesn't qualify as an edit?

I was thinking of a back-up statement to put here, but I really think the above line speaks for itself.

No effects, no speed ups, and no transitions. Just good old blends. I say it would be like taking clips from the net, or taking footage from a fansub. If you copy the blend parts, or copied the same way it was done by just taking all the footage and the exact way it was put together, then that's when the prob comes in.

If someones taking footage from your amv, but only the parts that have no special affects, speed adjustments, or transitions, then you shouldn't get pissed. :? And if you still think its wrong to take any sort of footage from an AMV, then fansubs shouldn't be an exception.
The problem arises though in how do you distinguish between a piece of edited and unedited footage? In a lot of cases it can be near impossible. That's why as a general rule, you just shouldn't.

This is ESPECIALLY true for people who are taking footage out of others AMVs. OBVIOUSLY the reason they're doing it is because they don't own or haven't rented the DVDs, in which case they probably haven't seen the series. And if you haven't seen the series, well um, how are you even gonna know in the first place what's been edited and what hasn't been?

Point taken. No one should take footage from any AMV's. I personally never wanted to. But when your in another country, and all your DVDs are at home, and you really want to make AMVs, and the only footage you have is the AMVs on your laptop, then you get desperate. I personally think you shouldn't take footage from AMVs, especially when your coping the creators blends, special effects, transitions etc...

The amv I mentioned is in the video announcements, and the guy even says that there aren't any effects, speed ups, or any transitions. Thats why I mentioned that video. :)

WTF!!?? Did I say that??? I didn't say they don't qualify as edits!!! I even said you shouldn't take ANY footage from another creator that has blends, and arranged footage from the creator. Did you even read my post!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

Yes, I read your post. I was saying that since you said:
x_rex30 wrote:No effects, no speed ups, and no transitions. Just good old blends.
You later state that it'd be like a fansub from the net. However, the edits between the clips (blends) DO NOT make it like a fansub. Which is why I jumped to my conclusion.

I didn't say that! Did you even read my post? I was trying to clarify between what you saw as simple blends between clips made by the editor and the way the animation is originally formed. I never said anything about you doing it.

And let's not derail the topic. I'm sorry for my trouble. :|

i hope that clears things up

but seriously. when you're talking about .7 seconds of a clip does it really matter?
Some of us a broke high school kids without the resources to get the dvds.

Except that, that doesn't make any sense. I mean if you're broke and you're gonna pirate clips out of someone else's AMV why couldn't you simply pirate the entire episodes to begin with (not condoning piracy, just making a point)? It's not like one is any less bad than the other. Other than sheer laziness there wouldn't be any need to pirate footage out of someone else's AMVs, regardless of whether you're rich or completely broke.

BTW, just on a side note, most people may not be aware of this, but if you've got cable TV, you're actually entitled to have "backups/recordings" of ANY show aired. So for example I've got cable, since I've had it, every episode of Cowboy Bebop has been aired on CN, because of that I can actually freely download episodes of Cowboy Bebop. There's some argument as to whether you can only have episodes captured off cable or stuff ripped from the DVDs as well, but it is something to consider.

Also you can rent anime, both online and at yer local video rental stores, which really doesn't cost very much at all. I'm sure if you got off your ass and did a lil part time work or saved up some allowance from mommy and daddy that you'd be able to cover it. I don't buy that "broke high school kid" crap, I lived out in the fuckin stixs and even I was able to get a job, when I was only 15. Granted it wasn't the nicest job on the planet, but I had money. And come on, it's not like school could be taking up much of your spare time, most public education systems are an absolute joke these days. So much so that most community colleges offer like Math50, Math65 and Math95, THREE math classes before you even START doing college level mathematics.
