n00b question about nose bleeds

why do they happen? never herd of them except in anime. i watch naruto and i see it i watch db and i see it. is there somthing i'm missing?

The male's blood pressure gets so high from seeing whatever he just saw that he gets a nosebleed so bad that blood comes out of his nose like water out of a fire hydrant.

It's more like a running gag or tradition in anime, like the way there is seemingly a giant sweat gland at the back of the head that makes those giant sweatdrops, and the multicolored hair, and the way they close their eyes when they are happy, not to mention the SIZE of the eyes.

GOD I LOVE ANIME.
