judging older versions of remastered work

i downloaded evangelion opus at a freinds place (thanks for hosting it maverick, or someone) today. but this is an old version of the video (vid quality is a bit lacking) and i heard that a remastered version was released. but, when OP'ing the video, should i judge it by the version ive seen, or should i take the fact that a remastered version has bein released into consideration ?

Actually, I don't know if you should leave an op in the remastered entry if you've only seen the original. In other words, they're two seperate videos; don't op one if you've only seen the other.

If you meant how should you leave an op in the original's entry, then I'd say judge it on its own merits. Though I wonder about the value of an op on the original video if a remastered version has been made. *shrug*

meh, sometimes people work realy hard on a video that they wana release, so when its doen they just release it without going back, checking over everything and fixing it up. then a few days later they realise how much beter it would have bein if they had fixed it up before sending it in. and im talking directly from personal experience here

What I find most humorous is the fact that even though it was the inferior version I saw I still ranked as #1 in my favorites.

And Akai Rurouni, that won't work here. Shonen Dizzy Cow did just a quality remastering (not a big difference) so he didn't create a new entry for it.

In that kind of situation, I'd try and base my opinion on the remastered version. Since an opinion serves the purpose of explaining which parts of the video came off well and which needed improvement, I usually try and get the newest version available. That way, I don't end up critiquing an aspect of the video that's already been recognized and fixed. Plus, I appreciate when people put in the effort to go back and try to improve on their videos.

Eh, consider this: if you take a video where the original version's capture sucked badly, while the remaster is beautiful DVD quality... it wouldn't really be fair to slam the editor on not knowing anything about quality.

Although if you note that you op-ed the original, I don't think the creator will mind. Just the same, usually when someone picked up on some later-fixed problem in a video, I'll refer them to the remaster, saying how I've been already made aware of the issue and fixed it.

But of course it's always better to op the latest version to begin with, especially if there's a big difference.
