yup parents STFU and make ure kids read a book... or better yet dont let them stay up until 1:00 am to watch something on a subsection called ADULT read: ADULT swimmadbunny wrote:People like that really piss me off. I'm not saying that we should start playing hentai mixed in with saturday morning cartoons; I'm saying that people should be given fair warning and decide for themselves.
If parents don't want kids watching nudity, or violence then maybe they should start supervising their kids a bit more. So in summation: if you don't like it, turn the damm channel.i dunno if this article was posted on this forum before though
How goddam hard is it to stay up and watch stuff, or at least see what their kids are doing? The television is not a baby sitter people, don't expect it to mind wipe your kids for you all the time.
You know, I let my students at school bring in anime for work on their own projects, or to just watch if they want to in their spare time. Every once in a while someone will bring in something like Tenchi Muyo, or Karumi. Do I get all foamy at the mouth about it? NO, I tell them to skip the innapropriate for school parts. How hard is that? Does that mean that my classroom has turned into a den of debauchery because possibly a high school age student saw a boobie with no nipple on it? Are the students suddenly having orgies at lunch time and turning into little Mr Oni's? Probably not. Parents; turn the fucking TV off, or better yet, make your kids read a book.
I know perfectly well, that I'm somewhat the hypocrite in that I'm telling others what to think, while telling them not to tell me what to think. However, since I'm telling them that think they should make up their own minds, I've got somewhat of a higher ground morally.
Censorship in anime

Yeah, censorship is a bummer for anime fans, but isn't is what turned most of us into anime fans in the first place? Take Sailor Moon and CCS (again, for example) I watched it when I was 10. There's no way I would have been allowed to watch it if the "gender-bending" and "yaoi/yuri" thing was going on. Heck, it probably would not have been on TV.
I suppose that censorship is kind of a way to introduce anime to kids. It's decent, it's there to watch on tv, and if you have a computer with internet - it can pull curiousity towards exploring other anime as well. Besides, if they do play certain uncut anime on TV, it's usually on late at night.
For us, "mature" anime fans, we know how certain animes are on television, but we also know about the originals. I'm sure just about everyone here knows what changes were made to Sailor Moon and CCS - and I'm sure most of us have even seen the originals.
I don't think censorship is a big deal simply because it's mostly done with anime that's played on TV - which is usually nothing special. If you can buy the uncut originals, go for it - but don't complain about the censored anime that's on TV because it's usually aimed for a younger audience.

Yes but wouldn't it be better for them to bring over anime geared towards the 5 and 10 year olds rather then butchering a anime that geared towards ten and adults to make it for little childern.*inverse* wrote:Yeah, censorship is a bummer for anime fans, but isn't is what turned most of us into anime fans in the first place? Cardcaptor Sakura is one anime that received one of the WORST censorships (next to Sailor Moon) of all. Well, that I've seen anyway. I thought Toonami did well with Tenchi Muyo! when they aried it by adding on those swimsuits. Stupid, yes, but better than cutting the entire scene.
As for that damn article...people like that piss me off, too. There's a reason FLCL is aired at midnight (or was aired) on a program called ADULT SWIM. And who would let yougn childern stay up until midnight anyway? AGH! That just pisses me off so much...

So very true. There's no reason someone has to become a fan by watching something that was mutilated out of its true form. There are plenty of shows that don't need to be edited (and yet, they still will be. It's sad that a mainstream prime-time TV anime series in Japan probably couldn't be shown on Adult Swim without edits).chabols wrote:Yes but wouldn't it be better for them to bring over anime geared towards the 5 and 10 year olds rather then butchering a anime that geared towards ten and adults to make it for little childern.*inverse* wrote:Yeah, censorship is a bummer for anime fans, but isn't is what turned most of us into anime fans in the first place? Just wanted to clarify...Geneon puts out the UNCUT versions of these shows. Nelvana put out CardCaptors, and...hrm...some other company did Sailor Moon (4Kids? Saban? I can't remember).someperson wrote:Just playing Devils Adovocate here. Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura were dubbed by the same company (Genon). Are there any other animes that weren't dubbed by Genon, but were butchered as badly as they were?

Darn double posting.
Digimon is another example. I don't think you can get uncut Digimon in the US at all. Or Pokemon (though the jokes that make it past the censors are pretty funny...
James: "I AM A FLAMING MOLTRES!"
Meowth: "Where did he get that costume?"
Jessie: "It came straight out of his closet.")

Obviously Geneon isn't the only one. FUNimation urinated all over every inch of Dragonball Z. And Yu-Gi-Oh (4kids) got similar treatment.
