Kaleido Star

Post by angelx03 » Tue Jul 13, 2004 11:46 am

Here's a series no one talks about much. I actually check out the trailer in the ADV website, and it looks really pretty especially the girls (probably because the fact that the creator of Sailor Moon is involved and Gonzo animated it).

The synopsis is in the website, but basically it's about a girl named Sora who want to be a circus performer as an acrobat. She "accidently" went to the backstage of the Kaleido Stage circus and bumps into the circus owner. This is her moment to shine because the owner was in desperate need of an replacement acrobat. Guess who the owner choose?

So anybody who has seen, is any good?

Well.. I like it..
It's very nice and clean looking.
What else would you expect from Gonzo? :D
Just my opinion. 8)

The show is pretty cute. It's the first circus anime I've seen, and I thought the concept was really original. (Even though some of the moves are physically impossible - but hey, it's anime.)
First Episode Symposis wrote: Sora (the main character) travels to America to try out for the Kaleido Stage, which has always been her dream. On the way, however, her bag gets stolen - but after some chasing & a few fancy moves, she's able to get it back. That's when she get's noticed by the owner, who compliments her "strong muscles". Sora misses the audition, however, and is not given a second chance. She meets up with a guy named Ken, who shows her around backstage during a preformance. For some reason, they end up short a person for the last act - they decide to let Sora give it a try. She blows it, and is told by Layla (the star of the stage,) to leave. She does, but when the owner found out about her leaving, he demanded she return. In the last few minutes of the episode, we see her walking away with her suitcase, when Ken yells for her "Sora, you can come back!". Overjoyed, she runs back to begin her new life at the Kalaido Stage.
^___^ Well, that's basically how it goes. It's been a while since I've watched it.

The animation is very colorful, and the music is really upbeat and fun. I give it thumbs up ^__^d

This anime is sick. I like the "Circus" style of the anime. And the main character is really cute! ^^

Kaleido star, for all that it is done by Gonzo 'feels' very much like something you would expect from clamp. The characters had a similar feel to anime like Cardcaptor Sakura, and Angelic Layer I thought.

On the whole the show is very cute, although there are some more dramatic moments now and then, this one is definately on the lighthearted side. I think the first two or three disks have been released, so you may be able to purchase it, or rent it. Also, there was the first episode of Kaleido Star in Newtype magazine, if you want to try that.
