Need MAJOR AMV help!!

Post by AnimeLuvr1298 » Mon Jul 12, 2004 3:35 pm

I really need help. I want to create an AMV, because I've watched so many and have had the urge to do some of my own. I have a few song ideas...I'm still trying to come up with a solid one...
Thing is, though, I have no idea how to do it. I have Windows Movie Maker, and I have TONS of anime DVDs, but I don't know how to put clips together in the maker and put them with music.
Basically... I have the things I need to make an AMV, but I have no idea how to actually make one. Can some people help me out? I'd REALLY appreciate it.
You can either reply here, email me, or instant message me on AIM. I'm online quite a lot, but if not, the first two will do fine. I just don't know how to figure this thing out...

Okay, well Problem 1, or Step 1: You have to get Windows Movie Maker to "see" your DVD and make clips for you to manipulate. Somehow, you have to "rip" the dvd. What I mean is, you have to take your dvd and convert it into a file, such as an .mpg, .avi, .wmv, etc, that Movie Maker will recognize.

Want to test it out? Under File, You should see a command "Import." After using it, it will ask you for a file to import, and it should automatically filter out anything it's not interested in - (WMM shouldn't be able to "see" real media, .movs, etc.) Click on an mp3, a still graphic (such as a .gif, .jpg file etc) or any video file (.avi, .mpg, .wmv, etc.)

If you choose a sound, (.wav, .mp3, etc) it will make a single clip of it and put it in your Collections folder. Double click on it and it will play it for you. Same thing for a still image. If you choose a video file, it should break it up into a few second increments, or clips, in its own folder. Now you're ready to go.

Click and Drag, or Right click and select "Add to Timeline" your sound. Next, choose a video clip and do the same to put the video clip to the sound. Close to the lower left hand corner just above your timeline at the bottom, you'll find an icon that will adjust the balance of sound. You'll want to slide the slider so that it takes all the sound from your audio, not from your video clip. Now you're ready to edit! Start making your video by adding more clips to your timeline, arranging them the way you want. Add effects, transistions, fades, get down with yourself.

Saving will create a "project" file. A small plan for your video, but you can't send or show this to anyone. When you're ready, You'll have to convert your project into a video movie file. Go up to File and click Save Movie (different from Save or Save as). Follow the prompts and questions and it will produce a .wmv movie for you that you can email and post to the net. Hope that's answered all your questions! Movie Maker is my first amv maker, and good for beginners!

Thank you so much. Hopefully I can actually make one to post now. I want to make a Hellsing vid and a Fruits Basket vid. Now I need so figure out actual songs, or at least a basis to the vids to create. *sweatdrop* Ideas, anyone? They'd be appreciated.

Stay tuned to Suggestions, I woudn't doubt something'll pop up. Otherwise, just meditate, listen to the radio, become one with the universe and the ideas will come to you. Just try to do something original that nobody's done already.

Hmmm.. Fruits Basket and Hellsing - That'd be fun. Maybe Alucard could turn into a vampire bat or something...

:?

Most people around here who don't use WMM seem to use Adobe Premiere, Ulead Video Studio, Sony Vegas, or Magix whatever-the-hell-it's-called-now.

And then there's the people on Macs and Linux machines using programs I don't know.

But by god, your avatar is too big. Forum rules limit avatars to a size of 80x80 or less.
