Operating Systems (OS)?
I currently use Windows ME, and I was curious...what operating systems do you people use? Windows 3.1/95/98/98SE/ME/NT 4.0/XP, Mac, UNIX, Linux, Other?
I was just curious because people are urging me to switch to Linux because its "So much better","the Saivour", ect., but I don't know...
And also, will Adobe Premiere work with anything besides Windows?

I use Mac OS Panther on my iBook but my brothers' machines at home run Windows XP SP1 and my dad runs Win 98 ... almost everyday, they usually come to me with tech support ... mostly my dad since he has an old crummy Compaq.
The stability of Windows can be flaky at times but I have learned that Windows has gotten a bit more stable over the years comparing my dad's box to my brothers' boxes.
If you're stuck with Windows software that you paid good money for, you might want to upgrade to Windows XP, but if you want to try something different, there's always a Mac.
Of course, there's always Linux, too ... but I find Linux to be complicated at times since some stuff is not as user-friendly like that on Windows and Mac... although, it's a good alternative when running servers.
As with Adobe Premiere, There is a Mac version of Adobe Premiere but only up to 6.5. Ever since Apple released Final Cut Pro, Adobe stopped developing Premiere on the Mac (or so I heard anyway). For Linux, I don't think there is any but I could be wrong.
Hope some of that helps.

I use several different operating systems between home and work, including Windows 95/98/XP, Mac OS X, and Linux (various RedHat builds), but I spend most of my time in XP and OS X. ME is just about the worst Windows build I've worked in (and I've used Windows 2.0!), and usually advise people to get rid of it and use 98 or XP instead.
Older versions of Premiere will work on Macs, but after 6.0 (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone), Adobe Premiere went Windows-only.
The editing program under Linux that I hear touted the most is Cinerella, though I've also heard it's a bear to get configured when you first install it (much like Linux itself, in my experience ^_^).

Re: Operating Systems (OS)?
wow you TOTALLY overlooked my personal favorite.... Windows 2000... i used to run win 98 SE, but trashed it because it constantly crashed and bluescreened... i cant edit on that.. so i went to ME, same problem.. then i went to XP, and it was a pain in my ass... i hated it! so i went to win 2000 and 90% of my problems were solved.. its stable, looks like old windows *me/98* and it runs on all of my machines.. *from 233 mhz to 1.3 ghz* so i stick to 2000.. Premiere pro however will NOT install on 2000 *or atleast i couldnt get it to* its for win xp *only?* so if you want premiere pro stick with xp, if you like your old premiere 6.0.. then i would suggest using windows 2000.devilmaykickass wrote:I currently use Windows ME, and I was curious...what operating systems do you people use?
