Changing Song Lyrics w/o Edits: "Psycho-Dubbing"?
Hey, all-
I looked and couldnt find another thread like this, let me know if there is one.
I noticed something rather weird as I was working on a lyricsheet. Here's the deal: I found the almost-but-not-quite perfect song (you know how that is...), where there are just a few lines that don't fit my plan. The song was good enough where I just decided to go ahead and do it anyway... and this is where the coolness starts. One of the lines of the song is:
"Isn't this the best part of breaking up,
finding someone else you can't get enough of"
(this is Why Can't I, by Liz Phair.) I didn't like the "breaking up" part of it, so I just decided to work around it. I chose a clip where some1 was waking up, and went forward from there... but check it: when I picture the cutsheet in my mind while the music's playing, I can actually hear her saying:
"Isn't this the best part of waking up,
finding someone else you can't get enough of"
Which fits perfectly with my project. Neone else out there notice anything like this? The same thing happens when you try to figure out the lyrics to a song, then go look them up... you find the differences in your version and the real version, and you can more clearly hear the words in the song now that you know what they really are. This came in very handy for me, but I dont know what I can do with it... i guess one could call it psychological dubbing, lol.
...well dont just sit there reading, try it!

Scintilla kind of did this as well in his "Under Ice" video. It uses Ice Ice Baby and there's one lyric where he says "you better make way" but it kind of sounds like he's saying "you better gain weight", so that's the lyric that he ended up using to sync to. The whole video is actually subtitled to the lyrics, so that just drives home the lyric change. So I guess if you make it obvious enough in the video, it can work out pretty well.

Hearing and the Mind
I definitely would not rely on it. Some people have very acute ears. Some store tried to sell me an MP3 player when they first came out. They were all excited saying these will replace CDs.
Nope. They don't sound as clear. Wavelengths, typical human hearing standards, and what not.
It depends on the person.
I'll try not to give you a brain ache by giving you the simple short version.
Reality is a place where nobody lives. People live in the world of Perception.
The body's senses take in information. This information to start with can be distorted by the environment.
Then the brain makes sense out of the sensory info. Problem is the brain does things differently from the body.
If it expects something or is suggested something it may bend its perception of reality to make sense out of it.
(People are very suggestible. Depending on the wording of questions you make, eye witness information can differ greatly. People can even create false memories.)
The brain seeks to make logical connections and come to an understanding of its surroundings and physical input.
Problem is it can do this so much that it makes sense out of that which does not make sense.
If you think the hearing part is weird you should learn about the eyes. The way the brain sees color and the way the eyes see color is different!?
People are wired to be adaptive not accurate.

I wouldn't rely on it, as some people have better hearing than others, but I also did this in one of my vids. In the song by Jessica simpson "With you" the lyric goes something like "I can let my hair down" but Akane has no scenes like that in the Ranma DVDs I have, so I used it to mean "I can lay my head down" and showed akane laying down in my video. No one that oped it seemed to pick up on that yet, so I guess it worked well enough ;p
So I am guilty of using it once. but yea I wouldn't rely too much on it.
If your curious, the vid I used it in is here:

Oh, I heard the "I can let my hair down", but I didn't care. Imo, lyric sync can be rediculous if taken too literally anyway. Witness my friend's laughing reaction to my second video, in which every time the lyrics mention a car, there's a car. Though some people liked thatBakadeshi [AuN Studios] wrote:I wouldn't rely on it, as some people have better hearing than others, but I also did this in one of my vids. So use you judgement. If it fits with the spirit of the lyrics but not the exact wording, I wouldn't worry about.

Re: Hearing and the Mind
It's not just color. You "see" things that you don't actually see on a regular basis - the brain is very good at "making up" information to fill in gaps (in general, but _especially_ true in vision).HeavyMetal wrote: If you think the hearing part is weird you should learn about the eyes. Anyhow, you can do things to trick people's brains into hearing the wrong thing. And you can get it to work pretty accurately and consisently, if you know how. But people who (like you) know what the lyrics actually are supposed to be might be immune to being tricked. since their brain doesn't have to guess. But then again, you never know...

Lyrics
Yeah I tend to look up lyrics a lot. Before I really got into to music I used to make a lot of mistakes hearing the words.
Messing with the words is not such a bad idea if you can't think of something else. Its just something you would want to do too much. You would definitely want to keep it consistent in the same song too. Always substituting the same word for the lyric.
I have to say bubblehead had a good point. Some people take the lyrics to literal. That is one of the reasons I avoid AMVs with multiple animes unless I have seen another video by the person.

*nods* i have done some research in the past about perception, memory dynamics, etc., but i never actually found a useful application for it... thats true though, it isnt good to use it too often. perhaps just to bend things to your will a little bit, lol.
i would like to find out specifics, though... it is rather interesting, once u think about it. the manifestation of data that doesnt exist. the psychology of the AMV, hahaha... and yeah, consistency(sp) would be something to make sure of too.
I'd expect it to be pretty much useless against those who know the song. I tried it, actually: there was a song i hadnt heard on the radio (i dont remember what it was right now though) and d/led it. I memorized the lryics off of the mp3, then went back to check the true lyrics. I read them while listening to the song... after that, I had to actually work to hear what I had heard before.
It's pretty cool though, I think... and I don't know what it was, but there was a case in court where a lawyer pulled the change-memory-through-wording trick on a defendant. They came up with a tape or something that proved him wrong... im not sure, i'll look it up if i have time.
